Holidays in The Hague

Sure, you could get your travel hit jealously scrolling through strangers' holiday pics. But you'll have a whole lot more fun making your own amazing memories in The Hague!

Around 470,000 people live in this part of South Holland.

The Hague lies 8 kilometres away from Kwintsheul, and 50 kilometres away from Amsterdam, the nation's capital.

An outing to Madurodam or Glowgolf Scheveningen is a terrific opportunity for a bit of family bonding. Kids still up for more? Keep the adventure going with a visit to Archeon and Vogelpark Avifauna.

Dive into a magical underwater world that's overflowing with sea creatures at Sea Life Scheveningen. Actually, come to think of it, it might be better to stay on dry land. Some of these sly critters shouldn't be meddled with!

Are your children curious about the world of wildlife? Treat them to a day out at the Boerderij 't Geertje, where they will learn about what an animal eats, the types of sounds it makes and much, much more!

If you believe man and beer were destined to be together, don't miss a visit to the Brouwerij de Molen. The brewers' loyalty to this miraculous, golden drop can be sampled in every pint.

The glamorous atmosphere of the Holland Casino Scheveningen makes it excellent for a big night out. Grab a beer and go wandering or choose a game and take on the house!

This destination takes its plant collecting seriously, so there are plenty of places where you can go and learn about botanic species from both local and international environments. A relaxed afternoon spent strolling through the magnificent gardens at the Keukenhof Gardens and the Hortus Botanicus is a must. For those travellers who are more committed, the TU Delft Botanical Garden and the Japanese Garden also have some nice floral exhibits.

From a friendly game of football to simply relaxing on the grass, you'll find plenty of reasons to head to a green spot like Haagse Bos or Westbroekpark. Also consider spending a leisurely day roaming the grounds of the Park Clingendael and Malieveld.

Observe the fascinating birdlife along the lake's edge or just sit back and appreciate the tranquil hum of rippling water at Rijn.

Take a stroll along the shore and try to spot animals like birds and jellyfish at Scheveningen Beach. Katwijk Aan Zee Beach is another popular spot to spend some time beside the ocean.

Quit checking your Facebook, turn off those notifications and put aside your phone. Tune into the natural world instead by organising a journey to Keringhuis.

If you're looking for a couple of tranquil places to collect yourself and maybe discover a thing or two, you can't go past the Molenmuseum de Valk and Museum Lambert van Meerten. Enquire about guided tours or just study the displays at your own leisure. The Museum de Gevangenpoort and the Museum Paul Tetar van Elven are also top alternatives.

Science freaks and geeks will be in their happy place at the Museon. Exhibiting even more exciting innovations, the displays at Old Observatory are sure to stimulate your inquisitive side.

We're not exactly sure how the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden and the National Museum of Ethnology have managed to amass so many of earth's fascinating artifacts into just two spaces. A stop at either will thrill you for hours on end. For even more displays from the natural world, make the trip to the Naturalis Biodiversity Centre.

With quite a few wonderful art collections to wander around, you might need a slight push in the right direction. We suggest grabbing a strong coffee and heading over to the Escher Museum or the Panorama Mesdag. If you've still got an itch to scratch, continue on to the Mauritshuis and the Gemeentemuseum.

Calling all history fans! You can discover more about the rich and varied past of the area at the Het Prinsenhof and the Muzee Scheveningen. Also check out eye-opening exhibits which help bring the past to life at the Streekmuseum Veldzicht Noordwijk and the Haags Historisch Museum.

Are you curious about The Hague's past? Then organise an outing to the Binnenhof and the Leiden University. Why not also make time for the Plein 1813 and Delft Town Hall?

When it came to the construction of Peace Palace and Noordeinde Palace, not a single detail was ignored. A good tour guide will ensure you don't miss a thing. If they float your boat, Huis ten Bosch Palace will also impress.

Burcht looks like it's leapt from a children's fairytale. Visit it and consider what it would've been like to wake up every day in this majestic building. If you're hoping to see more, Keukenhof Castle and Duivenvoorde Castle are just as impressive.

Customers with an interest in learning about the city's religious heritage should organise a visit to Oude Kerk and Nieuwe Kerk. Pieterskerk and Hooglandsekerk are some other historically significant sites.

They're probably not on the cover of any travel magazines, but Stadhuis and Lange Voorhout are still well worth a look. Muzentoren and Delftse Hout are two more options.
