The hotel is ok. The room was fine, but getting charged 25$ for parking at checkout for one nights stay should be an up front disclaimer. If you desire the location on Whyte Ave then great but I’d have stayed elsewhere if I knew that.

I paid for lunch at ampersand (restaurant in hotel) with my credit card. When checking out I was charged again for the meal I had already paid for. I pointed this out to staff and they agreed to remove the charge. Upon getting home I discovered that they had charged me anyways. I am baffled by this malicious incompetence on their part, so I will not be staying at the Varscona again.

The property’s location is undeniably convenient, but the room’s practical shortcomings overshadowed its recent renovation. Power outlets were scarce, the up-cycled fixtures felt more makeshift than modern, and there was no microwave or space for one. Most disappointing was the television: dated, brutal to operate, and nearly unwatchable. After a busy day, decent TV service shouldn’t be too much to ask for; its absence is reason enough for me not to return.

Very convenient location that is close to Whyte avenue, the river valley, and the UofA. The rooms were clean, the staff were very kind and helpful, and the rooms were as we expected. The internet in the rooms was unreliable and the TV was small and hard to watch TV on. This was a safe place to stay close to the core of the city and was good value for what you get.
