A tale of two rooms. First night rates a “2”, we stayed in Room 103 (don’t!), people from the on-site pub congregate right below the window, smoke cigarettes and talk until the pub closes at midnight. Second night rates a “4”, the staff was great and, after we had complained, moved us to another room (319). Much better. Again, shout out to the staff who was fantastic and very accommodating (seemed to be the manager or owner).

The staff were above and beyond friendly, helpful, respectful and supportive. Upon arrival, they carried our heaviest suitcase upstairs (this is a heritage building without an elevator.) we enjoyed down time on the balcony overlooking the front entrance when we returned after long days of walking. The restaurant had very nice breakfasts.

We really enjoyed our stay at the James Bay Inn. The location near Downtown Victoria is wonderful. The neighborhood and the hotel are very quiet. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful; especially Hedy, who carried our luggage up three flights of stairs and recommended delicious restaurants like Il Terrazzo. Even though there are no elevators, we would definitely stay there again.

We love the "old fashioned" feel of this hotel. We love the location on a residential street and walking distance to the center in one direction and the water in the other direction. We like the pub and restaurant on site for dining options.

If you have no mobility issues, this property is perfect. I could walk right downtown Victoria with no issues. I rented a suite, it was huge. It had a full kitchen. This is a heritage building due to it being built in 1911. If you have mobility problems, this place would not be a good one. There are no elevators and stairs.

Fantastic property. So charming. Great location, close to everything. Comfortable bed and linens and nice hot shower. Not ideal for anyone with disabilities as there is no elevator so be sure you assign for 1st floor accommodations. Otherwise this is a great find and we highly recommend the James Bay Inn.

We had a great stay at James Bay Inn, Hotel And Suites. It is close to many things that make your stay enjoyable. For example, you can easily walk to shops, other eating places, Victoria downtown (including the Harbour) and Beacon Hill Park. If I was returning to Victoria, I would have no hesitation to rebook James Bay Inn.

Great location, great price, easy parking unless you arrive when the bar is busy. Rooms are small as expected for a hotel of this vintage. Furnishings, decor, and details are budget and dates. If your priority is value, safety, or location it’s a good choice. For a special occasion or if planning to spend much time in your room, maybe not.
