The Neighborhood:
This location is perfect for exploring the Hill East neighborhood in Capitol Hill. Start with the Washington Post-recognized restaurant downstairs, then take a short trip down the block you'll find multiple pizza places and a local favorite bar as well as the food hall The Roost with many delicious options. Local weekday sandwich mainstay Mangialardos's is also a stone's throw away for weekday lunch and Sweet Crimes is perfect for a gluten-free treat. A few blocks east and you'll find plenty of open space on the the Anacostia Riverfront Trail system or at Congressional Cemetery, one of the oldest institutions in DC with lots of local programming. A 15-minute walk west you'll find the restaurants on Barracks Row and historic Eastern Market (including Trader Joe's).
Eastern Market is the Capitol Hill neighborhood’s most popular business, and the main reason nonresidents visit the neighborhood. The market, located on 7th Street SE between Independence Avenue SE and C Street SE, is the nucleus for the Capitol Hill neighborhood and a popular destination for DC visitors. The market includes the South Hall Market where merchants sell fresh produce, baked goods, meats, and deli products. Fresh Tuesdays Farmers Market features local farmers’ produce, meat, and cheese. During the weekend the market promotes The Weekend Farmers Line where local farmers sell produce year-round and The Weekend Outdoor Market that includes local artists selling handmade arts and crafts. Eastern Market also offers The North Hall Event Space, an arts and community center, inside the market where locals can hold meetings, wedding receptions, and other events.
Locals frequent the market daily to buy fresh produce and meat. Eastern Market has been compared to a very European way of living with residents buying their daily meals fresh from the market. As a community hub, the market has become the focal point of the neighborhood.
Not too much further is Barracks Row, the city’s oldest commercial corridor, Barracks Row is steeped with history and home to oldest active post in the Marine Corps. Come explore the diverse dining and retail opportunities with over 30 local and national restaurant choices, local retailers and neighborhood services.
Getting Around:
A 2-minute walk to Potomac METRO rail subway station, on the BLUE/ORANGE/SILVER lines which can take you practically anywhere in the city and beyond.
A Capital Bikeshare dock found one block away at Potomac & Pennsylvania Ave SE, opens up to a network of bike stations round the city and can be rented by ride or by day.
Within a 15-minute walk, you can find Trader Joe's and a Safeway grocery store.
Ubers and Lyfts are plentiful. Metered parking is available on the street
Find a scooter on the streets all over the city and rent them easily as well with your smartphone!
Other Things to Note:
You may note that our place is directly above the Hill East Burger restaurant, a Washington Post-recognized restaurant. We believe this lends to a unique yet classic DC living experience.
In case of any concerns about being above the restaurant, please know that the home has a vapor barrier installed in the floor of the room (2nd bedroom) above the kitchen below. We also have an air purifier in that room, as well as the mini-split, so air-flow is very good within the unit. The restaurant closes at 10pm on weekdays, and 11pm on weekends, noise should not be an issue at all during quiet hours.
In terms of any noise from the restaurant, it would only ever possibly consist of dull, practically inaudible sounds during normal business hours, and they don't play loud music, so excess noise has never been an issue.
Interaction with Guests:
While we offer self contact-less check-in for your convenience, we are only ever a message away should you need anything at all during your stay.
