Location great, friendly & helpful staff, nice room but hot, unfortunately no lift during the refurbishment which means a lot of stairs to climb!

We were advised the lift wasn’t working but didn’t know there would be 53 steps up to the room until booking in or that there was scaffolding outside the room impeding the sea view we had requested . We were concerned about workman walking along the scaffolding and being able to see in our room . Despite this the staff were extremely kind and helpful , especially regarding carrying luggage and the parking which we weren’t aware we had to reserve in advance . Am sure the hotel will be wonderful once the refurbishment is completed but this stay which was booked as it was my birthday , was not as enjoyable as we had hoped . Hopefully if we return again , the improvements that are being carried out will be completed making our stay more enjoyable

Property is under extensive renovations. The staff coped with this amazingly. Biggest issue was no lifts and having to manage the stairs daily even though we were imformed pre visit and offered help with luggage. In the circumstances though we had a great stay . Rooms clean quiet and staff very good . Parking easy and affordable. All in all lots more positive than the inconvenience. Thanks

We had a refurbished family room which was beautiful All the staff in the hotel and restaurant throughout our stay were fabulous The position of the hotel is perfect for walking into the harbour or to the beach, with beautiful views of the abbey. Breakfast was ok but could be a little chaotic. A small but irritating thing was that there were no condiments near the pastries so to get some butter/jam for croissant etc you had to interupt the toast queue. Also the size of the plates for pastries were tiny, no bigger than a small saucer which was messy. We were also disappointed with our evening meal at the restaurant. The pizza was fine but although beautifully presented the steak and guiness pie was quite bland and dry, even when the thin gravy had been added. Also, the diet coke tasted very watery even before the ice had melted. Overall, I would recommend and stay at the hotel again, just on a room only basis.

The hotel was undergoing major renovation during my stay, including the instalment of a lift. My review will be based on my experience during my stay with these renovations ongoing. This is an establishment that has seen some age, and my room was located on the 4th floor. The staff did not offer any service to carry my bag, which other similar establishments did (and to which I had refused). I had noticed many seniors on the upper floors had to carry their bags themselves with struggle, and to make the matters worse, each floor in the hotel is significantly higher than other buildings without lifts. The room I was offered is one of the most recently refurbished rooms, and it was overall satisfactory in cleanliness. One thing that I found slightly shocking was that given the recent refurbishment, the room did not have temperature control unit and instead had a portable fan and a portable heater. I had also fancied the restaurant for dinner service however after standing at the waiting area and 3 different staffs walked pass by without hint of service (or greeting) even when calling out to them, I decided elsewhere. The biggest issue for me was the fact that because of the ongoing renovation, there was a distinct smell in the halls of the hotel that did not smell pleasant or healthy and tickled my throat. I was overall looking forward to leave the premise as soon as I could.

The hotel is completely clad in scaffolding from top to bottom. There are workmen everywhere drilling, hammering and making a mess. The entrance from the car park is disgusting, bits of wood, filthy, dusty. The carpark is reserve space only and the overflow is a gravel space full of rubble and rubbish. Our allocated room was on the 3rd floor (no lift) with 90 steps (I was told). My husband has COPD. We were found a room on the ground floor with filthy windows and curtains. To be fair the man who attended to me asked if it was OK and I said yes because it was on the ground floor. It's undergoing renervation and there's a long way to go. The staff were very nice. We booked for two nights but left after one. I believe the room rate should be halved to compensate for the disruption - which no-one apologised for. I do have a photo of the bath and window but I think my words say it all. Enough said.
