Decent hotel. Great location. Quite a nice room (we upgraded for £40). One coffee machine at breakfast for entire hotel guests is crazy. Waited 25 mins to make mine.

48th wedding anniversary treat ruined by Malmaison

We searched Hotels.com for a spa hotel in York as a treat for our 48th wedding anniversary. We booked the Malmaison, York. Checking their website which still says "Train like a warrior in our fully-equipped gym or book in some royal pampering at our spa, where an array of treatments await you from massages to facials and body wraps." First visit to York for over 25 years

Great position. Walking to all attractions very easy. Breakfasts were fine. Not the most flexible of offerings. Our request for high floor was accommodated. Shower really nice but hand basin hot water just tepid no matter how long it was run for. We took advantage of no cleaning of room in exchange for evening drink. We would stay again. Next visit will be in a warmer and brighter month.

Business or pleasure, this is a great hotel

Great hotel, very comfortable room and the location is perfect. Breakfast is wonderful and I used one of the business pods for a meeting…so easy to set up and and very comfortable. Had to use the NCP parking which is only a 3 minute walk from the hotel but the hotel offered a reduction (30%) so remember to ask at reception upon check out

The smell inside the hotel was horrific. Our room smelt like sewage and we couldn’t leave the toilet door open. It’s all we could smell all night. I raised it with reception but they could only offer bleach to clean the toilet. The room was also ridiculously dark, if you’re a female needing to do make up, make sure you take an extra light or vanity mirror with a light. Everything else was fine, the hotel was clean, staff lovely and beds comfortable. It was just a shame we couldn’t sleep because of the smell and couldn’t wait to leave!
