You only have one chance to make a first impression, and the front desk staff failed miserably. You must wonder why you get offered a room that requires the longest walk from the elevator. I rejected this option and asked the individual to get an update from housekeeping. Now I was in luck as a room close to the elevator was available. I accepted the room and asked for our luggage to be sent to the room. The desk clerks began giggling and later I realized why. Yes our room was near the elevator but required walking up and down ten steps for two buildings to be connected.
The room was small and sufficed for a one night stay. However the room was missing a desk or table to set up a laptop. The coffee machine was nice but the water bottle was non exixtant. The charged me $9.50 for a bottle of water...outrageous.
Hotel.com asked if I was offered any perks based upon my status, sadly I was not.
Breakfast was not included.
I loved that it was close to everything downtown. Food, historic sites and good shopping were within walking distance.
I paid extra for a harbor view, but it was not much of a view. However the other side of the street was not too good.
The hotel was still being renovated, but no noise, etc from that. Staff, food, bar, decor all great.
Great location walked everywhere, even to the train station.
What a lovely place to stay, and it is within walking distance of the train! The hotel is unassuming on the outside, but it has been beautifully remodeled and updated inside. The staff were very friendly and helpful, even though we arrived at 11pm. I already had a different hotel booked for our trip back, but I wish I had cancelled and come back here instead. I highly recommend it!!
Newly renovated. Very clean. Friendly staff. Superiorly furnished room. Odd central elevator took it to 3rd floor then had to go down a staircase of 7 steps to get to 3rd floor
The hotel is fully renovated, actually still under construction.
Disregard all old negative feedback (pre 2024) you may read on forums, it’s an entirely new hotel.
It’s very clean and has a nice interior design.
It’s at the edge of downtown but it’s all walkable.
Effective blackout curtains (very important in Alaska)
The not so positive:
Sound proofing is not good. At night your sleep will be disturbed either by the train or the local hicks that think it’s fun to drive around with monster pickup trucks with modified mufflers, depending on which side your windows are
Check in staff in the evening was not very friendly
Like everywhere downtown, there are homeless with mental health problems
