Very good

The inn now uses virtual checkin—which I didn’t know when I booked. My room was very cold but, they offered a change of rooms which corrected the problem. It is a very nice property but, it is not the comfy, friendly place used to be. After staying here every year for years, I will not be returning.

The room is poorly heated. There was only a small electric heater and we were cold.

The location was within walking distance to town. There were very limited breakfast options. Unable/inconvenient to use the virtual key so we had to go to the main location to get keys to use. We chose a king room, but was given a bed which felt like a double, so we didn't sleep well. We had to call the main location numerous times to get coffee, cups, water & clean towels as nobody was onsite to help us out. The creamers curdled when used in our coffee...fortunately we brought our own cream. We had to wait to get these items delivered to our room. We won't be staying at this property again as it would have been the same price to stay at a hotel which would have offered much more service than we received here.
My sister stayed here 7 years ago and described it as posh with a wonderful breakfast. That was then. We stayed in the #10 double apartment. TV in living area didn't work. King bed was comfortable but held up with metal jacks with no bed skirt - unsightly. Bathroom light had a short so it came on only sometimes. Stove was unplugged and looked like it was a reject from 1958.
"Ice machine" in kitchen was a solid block of ice and a very bad smell emanated from the kitchen which isn't really used now as there is no breakfast. TV in living room downstairs didn't work the first night we were there.
Knickknacks in lobby couldn't have been dusted in the last six months. There was dirt all over the bed in another room that another couple had rented. You have to get an app to open your door and that took several tries to work. Another couple had to call the manager to open their door as they couldn't get the app to work at all. It's a great shame as this is a stately old beautiful home that seriously needs attention and TLC. The location is great. I am not usually one to write a review but the owners need to pay attention to their property and obviously they aren't. It was a really disappointing
visit and I feel bad that this beautiful home has not had the attention any rental deserves in order to keep visitors coming.

There was no staff on the property. The cards in the lock box did not allow us to get into the property so we had to wait for someone to come and help us. These things could probably have been checked since we had called them and told them that we would be arriving late. The house was very cold so we couldn’t enjoy the rest of the house. We stayed in our room which was a little warmer than the rest of the house.
Lots of review comments about the doorkey app but we had no trouble with it at all. Smooth sailing and good comms with the hotel. The room is lovely and the area is perfect.
Everything was great except for check-in, which was terrible. Remote check-in is already inconvenient but even worse when it fails and you have to drive across town then wait in line to get your room key.
Lovely property! Friendly host! Felt safe and private.

Had to down load an app for the room key. No person on the property to assist with check in. Got into room and went out for New Years Eve. People in lobby when we left having issues with check in as well. Get back to property around 1am and the front door would not allow access into building. There were 2 other people waiting outside trying to get in. Had to make 2 phone calls to get someone to let us in the front door and room. Terrible experience not being able to get back in the building, their new keyless remote app needs a whole lot of work. Coombs Inn is a 100 year old Mansion, really neat experience when things work right. Apalachicola is a very small town, they of all people should know to not try and eliminate customer service with an app.
Elegant building and room. Wish we could stay longer. Explored town a little last night on foot.

Disliked: Staff & service
The inn is quaint. However, our room was on the first floor and had french glass doors with a flimsy curtain. We heard EVERY person coming and going upstairs as well as on the first floor. NO staff on location. Everything was self check in. Will not be coming back.
Late arrival, virtual key software didn't work, so had to go to another location to get inside hotel and room. Clerk didn't direct us to our parking spot, so it was very taxing to unload the car. Floor was sticky that shoes got glued in. From not being mopped, I guess. They had a nice comforter, but no duvet, so 2 sheets that comforter was wrapped , got lost in the process. How cheap can they get? The room was so small, 2 people couldn't comfortable move around.
The hotel is a delightful 1995 building. We enjoyed sitting on our balcony overlooking the historic graveyard. Just two blocks from all the action it’s a great location.
The contactless checkin was a disaster. It’s too complicated and frustrating. After 3 attempts we gave up. And had to go to another hotel to get a key. We were told this happens all the time. There was no flexibility for check in without paying $25. We were the only people staying at the inn and it’s Christmas Eve. Oh and if you did not want to do contactless and go pick up a normal key. It’s an extra $10
All this just was too much fuss.
The heat and air in the inn was under lock and key. And we were too hot and had to sleep on top of the bed. The bed was a spring mattress and very un comfy and squeaked every time we moved.
There is a lovely common room downstairs with sofas and dining table. We took our wine and chocolates down to watch a movie. Yes there was a smart tv but it wasn’t connected to the network.
It’s a great piece of property at a good price and we enjoyed having it to our self.
The room was fine for a historic property but getting access to the room was really bad. You get an email with instructions on downloading an app to use your phone as a mobile key; if you want a physical key, it’s $10. The email doesn’t mention the hotel name but comes from some unidentifiable place so it went to my spam folder. Had to call the hotel for help, Downloaded the app and got the key but it doesn’t say the room number. So I went to the hotel but there’s no front desk on site; it’s run by a sister property half a mile away. Had to call again to find where my room was. Then the mobile key didn’t work so I had to call again. They ended up having to give me a physical key. What a hassle! Don’t think I’ll stay here again.
