Across the street is a private beach area with sandy beaches where you can soak up some sun, go swimming, build sand castles or just relax. In the evenings, you might want to sit on the sound-side of the facility under the gazebo, or on the gliding chairs and watch the boats go by. Like to grill out? There are grills out on the lawn area where you can cook your favorite foods or catch of the day if you go fishing. And speaking of fishing, you can charter one of many boats to take you for a fishing excursion you will never forget. There are also water taxis that can take you to local islands or go on a sightseeing adventure. You might see the wild horses on Shackleford Banks or even get a glimpse of Blackbeard! Visit the local parks, award winning seafood restaurants, beach shops, hiking trails or water parks. Like history? Visit the Fort Macon State Park, the second most visited park in NC. Construction of the present fort began in 1826. Fort Macon was a federal prison from 1867 to 1876. You will walk through the fort and feel that you are back in time.
