Very disappointed

The drive/entrance to the hotel promised a pleasant stay. But we were disappointed overall once checked in. For starters, one of the lifts was out of order, we were also told the hotel jacuzzi wasn't working either. Then bedroom decor was dated and tired, some nasty stains on the carpet, bed poorly made (you could see the matress showing as the sheet wasn't tucked in at all; one tiny pillow for a king sized bed looked ridiculous, and no spare blankets or pillows in case needed which you usually get in other hotels. Things got considerably worse in the dining room. We'd booked our table OK, the place was less than half full. Then we looked at the menu.. I'd checked the hotel's version online when I'd booked and it looked contemporary, so influenced my decision to book. However, I don't know how out of date it was but the actual menu was like that of a Berni Inn's! Pretty much very basic pub fare only. Then the waiting staff left a lot to be desired. We kept hearing the word 'sorry' from them to guests, wine orders took ages to arrive - one couple received theirs after their meal had already arrived. I was totally underwhelmed with the food choice, so opted for fish - only to find the last portion had already been sold. So in desperation, opted for the child portion of fish gougons (which were actually jumbo-sized fish fingers in batter). I'd asked for tartare sauce but that was forgotten too. We avoided the breakfast we'd paid for and couldn't wait to leave :(

The allocated room 503, was on the top floor. The floor gradient sloped from left to right, and at night as I suffer from vertigo, meant I fell over several times. Due to the hot weather, the top floor temperatures were unbearable at night, even with the window open. The very narrow staircase to the top floor, meant it was very difficult to navigate the stairs with luggage. On our previous trip with the same package, the room was fantastic, no complaints. I would definitely recommend that anyone staying in Room 503 check the room out before agreeing to stay there. Cleanliness and cleaning staff were brilliant but the room itself made our stay unenjoyable.

Had sold out of the room that we had booked so got downgraded. They did ‘upgrade’ us to the booked level of room for the next night however the room was very dirty with lots of cobwebs and even bird poo on the window sill inside the room!

We had stayed here before using an internet discount offer and the room was excellent. We again took advantage of a cheaper rate offer for a 2 night stay in the area but the room was awful. It was incredibly small with only just enough room to walk around the end and side of the bed and the décor was tired and worn, The window only had a very small opening and although there was an electric fan provided it was incredibly hot during the night. The window sill was completely rotten. The drain in the sink and shower was partially blocked with a disgusting mix of hair and grease and both took ages to drain the water, and the shower nearly overflowed. The bathroom extractor fan was so noisy we had to turn it off at night. Even considering the discount price the room was well below what we expected and I doubt we would take the risk of booking again.

Couple staying 1 night

We were sceptical after some of the bad reviews, however it was clean, fast check-in and out, bedrooms had fans and hairdryers, rooms a little dated and could do with an update, but good size, and has everything we needed. The breakfast was good and had plenty of choice. We used the spa, pool was warm, jacuzzi out of action, but we enjoyed the 2 hours we spent in it none the less.

The room was like a sauna, the whole floor was sweltering, fans provided but just moved hot air around. I think maybe next to boiler room as not in sunshine, so not sure why otherwise. 1 tiny window that was old and wouldnt stay open. Couldnt stay in room for longer than 5 minutes as just too hot, even coming in to get changed we would be dripping with sweat Not the relaxing spa break we'd paid for. Would definitely not recommend!

The room was awful, thread bare carpet, ripped bedsheets, complimentary milk was out of date, mould in the bathroom as there was no ventilation (no extractor fan and the window didnt open). Im sure other parts of the hotel must be nice, but the room i was given was awful.

It was very noisy. There were loud parties every night until the small hours so it was hard to sleep. When you wanted to open the windows to get fresh air, you couldn't because of the safety catches. There were no herb teas on offer in the bedrooms as there is in most hotels these days. The decor was dark and gloomy. There were lots of stairs to go up and down on the way to your room and no lift, which is difficult for 80 year olds. The food was very uninspiring.
