It was ok. My message to have a room near lift was not taken up. Room right at end of corridor ! Service in restaurant was terrible! Apparently had a problem with illness with a chef in the kitchen! But we were still finishing our meal at 10.00pm. I had an operation at Papworth early the next morning so not ideal! There was a mixup with the bill from the restaurant when we checked out- charging us double we owed! It was sorted out but took a bit of time we didn’t have.

The hotel was in a good location just 15 minutes from the centre of Cambridge. Check in was efficient and very informative. The food in the bar/restaurant was really good and they had a wide range of options on the kids menu. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was lovely to see the manager helping its staff in busy periods. There was ample parking. We stayed in a penthouse suite which was very spacious and had a bath with jets which was a nice touch, it also had an inclusive minibar again another perk. The room was a little dusty but the cleaning staff were very receptive in rectifying this. The pool was a good size and clean. The hotel was family friendly as we stayed with our 3 and 1 year olds. Would definitely go back for another stay.

The hotel on paper has all the amenities: pool, spa, sauna, gym, grounds, free parking, good transportation to Cambridge, close supermarket, etc. However, it is not perfect. In terms of cleanliness the customers of the room before us used the dust on the mirror to write a message, “clean me” and we left the room after two days and the message was still there. The bathroom, towels, bedding were clean. The pool area and changing rooms were not very clean. I understand it was a holiday with many customers but I would have expected the areas to be cleaned several times during the day. We called reception many times: once to book dinner and they never responded and once to ask for an additional towel as there was only one towel in the room. For the latter they eventually responded. The breakfast was ok but not the great. Croissants seemed heated from previous days and not many options. We only had dinner once, i had the lamb pie which was very good and my partner had tikka masala which tasted like sugar sauce.

Lovely relaxing family stay

Second stay at this hotel with family, really enjoyed again and sure we will return. Staff all lovely and helpful especially with children. Small issue dealt with quickly. Really like the relaxed atmosphere in the bar and seating area and outside area around the lovely lake. Great being able to get good food not just in the restaurant. The pool is really nice but feel it would be good especially in the holidays to extend the kids swim times just a little longer as we were unable to use the pool on the first night and it wasn't very late at all. Stayed in a junior suite and really liked the extra touches. Having the kids on a large sofa bed in another separated part of the room makes a big difference. Also the jacuzzi bath and the inclusive well stocked mini fridge make it feel like value is added and help create a relaxing stay and make us choose this over other hotels in the area. Also the breakfast both days was very nice and no fuss.

Upgrade :-)

Upgrade on arrival was great, had a very large separate space to work, some comp snacks and drinks and a coffee machine. Thanks to the lovely staff at the Belfry Had a nice relaxing swim and steam, didn’t use gym but it looked well equipped. Large clean bathroom, good shower. Large comfy bed. Dinner in the bar was well presented but a little small for the cost. Breakfast decent.
