Beautiful building and nice location, great staff--except that the ceiling is very flimsy and you can hear everything from upstair. Bed is great, room is very comfy--staff members are very kind.
Surprise: hidden fees though minor and lack of clear communication.
This is very minor but seems to be an important thing that gave me a not-so-great impression of this place: business is a business but I would expect clarity not dodging.
The website and the Expedia page says does say there is a parking fee. But tax was not mentioned. I am not complaining about the parking fee but the weirdness around it.
I directly asked "So the parking is $$ (Expedia does not want you to mention a fee in reviews) and there is no other fees?" and the person at the front desk said "It will be deducted from the deposit," looking very afraid and clearly not wanting to talk about this topic which I thought was weird
Later, I see $$ minor fees. I called and asked about this and they say "everything is taxed." Is there a reason why this could not be clarified on the website, your Expedia page, and when I asked in-person?
Most hotels and inns I stayed at keep it transparent and they will always mention from the get-go "xyz is $000 plus tax" or "xyz is $000" and so on. Note that I am not complaining about the fee but about the passive communication that went around that topic.
You may think this is a minor thing but to me this seems to be a sneaky way to scrape off a few more dollars from guests.
