Everything was great. Only down side was the walls are thin so trying to sleep is hard when you can hear the staff and other guests

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
Room was clean and comfortable. Property grounds were beautiful. Garden to explore. Facility was very well maintained and unique. Easy access to everything Edinburg without being in the middle of town. Would stay here again
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at the Cumberland. The building was really neat, our room was large and comfortable, and it was extremely conveniently located to shopping and dining as well as public transit. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again.
The best part of the hotel is the location being walkable from the train station and being reasonably priced. That said it’s definitely spend the little extra to go literally anywhere else instead. While the room itself was a decent size and had a pretty clean bathroom that’s where the positives end and starts the negatives.
As for the negatives the curtain was paper thin not blocking out much light and sound travels all through the hotel making it pretty noisy, some of it from other guests the rest from old pipes. The WI-FI wouldn’t connect either so the coverage probably doesn’t cover all rooms. The shower was completely blocked and wouldn’t drain at all quickly flooding over into the floor. However by far the major issue with the room that ruined the entire trip was a broken proximity light on the ceiling that blindingly flashed on every 2 seconds for the entire stay ensuring no one was able to get a proper sleep.
Staff said they were unable to do anything about this and couldn’t accommodate any other solution such as an alternative room. Considering the room cost over £150 a night this was a massively disappointing stay and I wouldn’t go back.
When we arrived for check in, the room they gave us had not been cleaned. We went to the front desk to inquire and were swiftly given another room which was equally as dated looking, albeit clean. Manager offered us free breakfast which was argued by cook the following morning.
Would not recommend property. Location was much too far from city centre and definitely overpriced.
Older property but in very charming area. Great bus connections; The room we had was adequate for 3 adults with a double bed and 3 singles. The staff could not have been nicer..showing us how to use our hea
A really interesring older place. It was like a mansion that had been made into a hotel. I stayed three different times because of the convenience of being close to Haymarket railroad station. The first room was in the attic so lots of stairs to climb. Room was big enough for three of us and had a lovely view. The next time I was by myself so I asked for a lower floor and got a room on 2nd floor so was less stairs to climb. Then next time I was on the main floor and even had a mini fridge. I also got breakfast included on the last two times so had a lovely full Scottish breakfast. I' not sure why we didn't get it included the first time. It is a 30 minute walk to old town Edinburgh so very doable if you walk. A few small convenience stores close by to pick up food, drinks & snacks. A few restaurants close by. The restaurant in the hotel itself was not open when i was there in September. Beds are comfortable & rooms clean.
Very interesting older building. Quite a few stairs to bring luggage up to 3rd floor. First room was an attic room but it was quite big enough. Staff were obliging when I requested a room on a lower floor when i came back for a second stay. I also got breakfast included on second stay. It was lovely full Scottish breakfast too.
Beds were comfortable & rooms were clean.
The room was really comfortable, the wifi worked excellent and the location was perfect because it was close to the old and new town but far enough to get some rest. The staff of the hotel was the best thing, they were always kind with us and they gave us an excellent service!
