Domenico the owner is a gracious and wonderful host. The place was just renovated and the rooms and bathroom are brand new, modern, functional and Italian designed. Domenico even gave my wife a farewell gift souvenir to add to his personal touch.
Hotel is on a beautiful neighborhood. The bus stop infront of the hotel less than 5 minutes from everything, including the Stadium of Florentina.
The hotel is on a third floor and no elevator but this is a small price to pay for this wonderful place.
I am already looking forward to me next stay at the hotel Emma. Don’t miss the eateries upstairs in the market place in Florence. What a coulinary experience!!! I can’t believe Rick Steves and Bourdain missed it. Thanks Domenico!

When we arrived at hote Emma, we found our reservation had NOT been sent to them by Expedia. They had no record of my reservation and they had NO rooms available. Fortunately, Manager found us ONE room at another hotel. It was ONE room all 4 of us had to share I am very disappointed in Expedia and will NEVER book through them again.
Hotel Emma is exactly as described and seen in pictures. Recently renovated so everything is up to part. Great looking rooms, comfortable bed & nice bathroom. Although, is a bit off the city center (30min walking or 12-15min by taxi/bus) it is rather accessible. My family and I enjoyed strolling to/from the city center and merging as much as we can with the locals :)
The hotel was close to Nelson Mandela convection where I was walking every day for 5-7 min. The only thing I could be happier was not carrying my luggage two levels up ground.

Easy to find hotel with helpful staff, although their English was not fantastic. Very small hotel, good value for money.

Not a bad hotel but quite far from the town centre
A reasonable hotel but it is a good 30/40 minute walk from the centre of town. Not a massive issue if you are fit and capable and only staying for a short time (we stayed for 4 nights).
The room and bathroom were clean and tidy and it was pretty comfortable - the only thing that wasn't so good were the mosquitoes. I would recommend taking some decent repellent.
Don't expect a big breakfast as part of the package - it is very basic (but the coffee is lovely).
Let me keep this simple:
3 flights of stairs
Bed bugs
20 mins away from center by bus
Walls are extremely thin
One 1 phone per internet service, and they cut it off the night before we left
shower curtains had mold at the bottom
Pro: hot water, and cold air
bus stop in front of hotel
do not carry no more than 1 bag eles you will be sorry!
My wife and I stayed for 3 nights at Hotel Emma in July 2014. It's a small hotel situated in a relatively quiet area just north of the city centre. It's a 10 minute bus ride from Santa Maria Novella station on the number 11 and 17 buses, which stop right outside the hotel. The bus stop to go back into the city is just around the corner on Viale dei Mille.
Our room to be clean and comfortable and had everything that we needed. The air conditioning was very good which was a real bonus given the hot weather. The buffet breakfast was adequate with a selection of cereals, pastries, bread, cold meats, fruit and hot and cold drinks. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The only (very) minor negative comments I would make are that firstly the hotel is situated on the second floor of the building and as far as we could see there wasn't a lift. This was not a problem for us but could potentially be for some guests. Also, as the hotel is so small any noise that is made at reception or the dining room can be heard in the nearby rooms. Again though this wasn't a major issue.
Overall we enjoyed our experience of Hotel Emma and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.
We spent 2 nights at Hotel Emma. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was basic but adequate. Outside patio was nice, beds were comfortable, staff was friendly. Very good value for the price. The only drawback was that it was a bit far from the city center and we had to take a bus into the city (bus picks up and drops off at Santa Maria Novella train station) - however, the bus stop truly was directly in front of the hotel, so this was not too much of a hassle. We enjoyed our stay here and I would stay here again for the price.
Very clean hotel. I picked based on reviews of other travelers. It is not close to the main sites, but several bus stops nearby if you don't feel like walking. We did a combination of both - walking and bus. One person said to go to track 12 from the train station, and we did this, but there was no way to get out of the station and had to go back to the main entrance. It is really very close to the train station. It is on the second floor as other reviewers noted, but there are more like 4 flights of steps to go up, so if you are not traveling light, you should keep this in mind. The reception area is secure as are all the rooms. You need to be buzzed in. I liked this and felt it added an additional layer of security. Our room did not have a view, but there was quite a nice outside patio area at the end of the floor. We did not take advantage of this as we were out and about except for sleeping.
Quiet location about 45 minutes from train station. Good bus service from right outside hotel. Hotel was very clean and well organised. Room was clean and comfortable. Air conditioning was effective. Breakfast room was lovely and bright and breakfast was adequate. There's also a little terrace balcony where you can sit. Staff / owner very helpful. Even got a small gift when we left!
First of all the supposed hotel is up 4 flights of stairs and it has 9 rooms. This could hardly be called a hotel since it seems that the "hallway" was once a commercial space that was converted into these sub standard" "Prison Cells" that could hardly be called rooms. I got the worst room because as the owner reminded me I booked through the internet, so there seemed to be some resentment there. He asked me that I could not request a different room, my only option was to leave and get no refund. He refused to give me one of the "cells" that had a bathroom so he made sure I had the worst room in this hallway. The shared bathroom was all the way down the hall the Hall incidently was nosiy, smoky! Forget about asking for a non smoking room they do not exist , you can smell everyone's smoking and it seeps through the door and walls. The walls are so thin I could hear the person in next room snoring. The shower booth in the room (no toliet though)had black mold at the bottom and the cheap rug of the room was flithy so much I had to wipe my feet before getting on the springy, back killing pad that passed as a mattress which was on a squeaky metal thin spring frame. Lastly, the air conditioning is at the mercy of the control freak who runs the place who believes that since I only paid less than what he wanted for the "cell" asking for the air conditioner to be comfortable seemed out of the question and "not possible". The guy is a misogynist who runs the little boarding hall way, this place can hardly be called a hotel and should not be an option on this website.
This hotel is reasonably priced just outside the downtown core a short bus ride on bus 11 or 17 from the train station. Rooms are basic but comfortable and breakfast is included. There are only about 10 rooms and owners are very helpful. Not luxury and not slumming it but ok. Close to athletic complexs and pool if required.
The hotel was a good walk from the centre of Florence but we did it for 4 days no problem.
The room was nice, very clean and slept 3. Nice bathroom, great shower.
Breakfast was lovely.
The only downside was the noise. We were in room 9 which was right next to the entrance and reception. You could hear every coming and going and every word of every discussion being held at reception.
Would recommend for a short stay but ask for any other room then 9!
