The Mondello is a small Mom & Pop Family run motel. Within this context, I give them motel 5 stars. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was updated with a newer shower stall. I did not seen any modern chain motels in town. From casual outside of observation, this seemed like one of the better hotels in town. There is no elevator to the second floor.

Nice and clean with views of the mountains from the upper rooms but on a noisy road, towels were a bit small compared to all other motels we’ve stayed at during our NZ trip. Not the fault of the hotel but house construction adjacent to it started work at 7:30am!

Lovely clean room. We had easy accessibility room although we did not require it but that was fine. Great shower presure. Big room. Great kitchen facilities with a small hob provided. Plenty of utensils and washing up liquid provided. Tea/coffee & milk provided. Netflix on Tv. Laundry room much appreciated and very reasonable costs. Really well organised services. Kind welcome gift on arrival appreciated. Close to supermarket, whale watching and town. Really good location. Seating area outside room provided. I would stay again if in kaikoura.

A clean, quiet room well presented. Only small problem was that the fridge froze most things even with the thermostat increased. Could do with a large bowl for mixing things and a draining rack to make stacking dishes easier. Otherwise perfect. Will definitely go back again.
