It was a strange to stay. If you are looking for simplicity, solace, meditation, and walking around the grounds then this is your place to stay. The halls at night were dark. We felt that we were in the movie "The Shining". We stayed for one night at the beginning of September and it was hot, so we left the windows opened at night. They are no screens in the window or AC. In the middle of the night, we heard something flying around the room and they turned out to be 3 bats. Fortunately, they found their way out. The toilette was like being in an airplane - vaccum style system.
We would have checked-out early and not stayed the night if it weren't for the fact that the hotel is very remote and finding any alternative would have been very difficult.
The biggest issue was the sewer line. Every minute while using any water (brushing teeth, showering, etc) a large grinder pump located within the suite would turn on. The sound of it is best described as what it would sound like if all of the dark forces were emerging from the middle of the earth. Terrifying, frightening, and evil sounding. Considering that this was formerly an Abby, the evil connotations are magnified.
The facility feels like it was remodeled by "I did it myself". The furnishings are spartan. Electric outlets are scarce.
We like old buildings and old hotels, but this one was an experience we would not like to repeat.

nice setting
bathroom plumbing very noisy and only lukewarm water for shower and bath.
Spa/fitness facilities very basic and at a small extra charge
Beautiful old building with splendid and vast gardens to walk through. Rooms were pleasant but there was no air conditioning and the room was particularly warm. The bathroom was a little small, but we had chosen the most basic room. The staff were very helpful and the spa facilities are numerous. Secure parking is available, but ask at the reception for the code. Would happily stay again.
Thus could be a wonderful hotel if a major refurbishment took place. The building is lovely, we upgraded to a suite which was large overlooking the courtyard but had major cracks in the walls and the front door frame was partly missing. It was poorly decorated with awful bathroom and the plumbing was very noisy, the noise when flushing the toilet nearly blew our heads off! The bed was very uncomfortable with poor quality bedding. We can't comment in the food as we decided against eating there after reading the poor reviews. There was a very nice restaurant a short distance away. It would take a vast amount of cash to turn this hotel into what it could be, it is a beautiful building in a lovely location, such a shame.

Very interesting unique historic building
The first room we had was a standard room with a lovely view over parklands but unfortunately we experienced some noises from the toilet system I guess because it is a old building however we were moved to another room which was very satisfactory. It was disappointing not to have tea and coffee facilities and a hair dryer but I believe that is normal in France. Staff spoke English and were very helpful. Enjoyed the warm quiet swimming pool. Soreze is a very quaint sleepy village which is very interesting but you need to travel for restaurants etc.
Fantastic location with lots to see. Hotel lovely with lots of features to enhance the experience but still comfortable to stay would recommend at least a one night stop.

Long walk to parking
The google maps instructions seemed scary. but thanks to our GPS we found it OK.
We had enjoyed staying at former palaces in Paradores Nacionales in Spain, and we expected a similar experience but we let down: aristocracy lived better than monks! :)
We only spent the night there and left early in the morning. The room was small but comfortable, and so was the bathroom. The building is austere, not at all luxurious.
The breakfast buffet was not impressive. There was
only one waitress. When we arrived she cleaned two spots at a table full of dirty dishes and left the rest of the mess as is.
We had to ask for milk, salt and pepper, lacking at the buffet.
There is no place near the hotel to have breakfast...
At checking I was given a map of the town to let me know where I could park (at the public parking outside of the old town) since the normal parking was not available. On my long walk back I found 2 legal parking spots near the hotel! They should have told me: if you can't find a spot nearby, use the public parking...

Delightful and charming abbey hotel
Magnificent 17th century abbey building set in fine parkland. Quite unique really and great history. Worth a stay just for the ambience.
Restaurant average and room facilities fell short a little. no daily renewals of soap or shampoos - without asking. Wifi out of action.
Spa was average/good and a generous facility in view of price paid for the stay.
Good location to explore the lovely coutryside and fine villages.
