The property, days before travelling said my card didn’t work and they would cancel my reservation within 24hrs. I tried to contact them multiple ways for several days with no response, having been provided an out-of-service phone number and ended having to book another hotel. In the end, my card worked perfectly fine and they still charged it for a night.

The hotel was in a nice area. But not too close to any metro. The room was clean but very minimalist. The restaurant was not good so better to go for breakfast elsewhere. Ok hotel for the price but would look for another hotel next time.

First off, I booked 6 months in advance to secure my stay and this hotel cancelled my confirmed reservation of 5 days because I wrote to them to notify them that I am going to arrive 1 day late due to an unexpected commitment at home. They would still have charged my credit card for the full 5 days. I arrived on Thursday instead of Wednesday just like I notified them only to hear that they cancelled my reservation, and no other rooms were available. This happened at a time when all hotels were fully booked and I couldn't find a place to stay for my entire family, including 2 toddlers. We were all tired and exhausted from a 6 hour drive from NY. My family ended up staying 2 hours away from Montreal because of this. I would not recommend staying here. It was very unprofessional of them. They did not even attempt to help me find a solution. No hotel should do this to anyone, especially a family travelling with children.

The property is not safe, my car's windshield on left front side was broken by someone in the night. When I found it in the morning, i went to the reception and reported it. I was disappointed when the reception agent told me they don't have any concern regarding the car damaged. So i was able to fix my car by myself 😡

At best, The Hôtel Newstar is a low rate motel. The building itself has several offensive odors and is poorly light with quite narrow hallways. When we first arrived there were several concerning situations at the front of the motel and I was quite concerned about the safety of the parking lot. My instincts proved to be true - during our stay the police were called to the hotel and my car was hit in the parking lot. So an overpriced, poor quality stay has become even more expensive. The rooms need repair and the furniture needs replacing. The floors are not carpeted, but linoleum. I would not use the shower, the television didn’t work properly, and we could clearly hear televisions and footsteps from other rooms. We spent as little time as possible at Newstar.

The only thing that was ok was the mattress. Everything else was pretty crazy. The room looks and feel old and rundown. Trying to take shower but the water pressure from the shower head was quite weak. The bed frame has patches, chair has stained. The washroom space restricted. Going to the shower, I almost broke my toes a couple.

Staff were friendly. Deposit was never mentioned while booking. Had to arrange at the spot. Rooms were clean but the smell was unimaginable and disgusting and looked like it was from the fridge. I may not stay here again
