I was suggested this hotel because it was good and other guests had stayed there. When I made my reservation using trivago.com, I picked a room with breakfast included. When I arrived in Santo Domingo, I called the hotel, asking for a shuttle service. The receptionist told me to just take a taxi; we don't offer such a service. When I got to the hotel to check in, the clerk said that breakfast was not included and that I would have to pay 15 USD. I noted that I made my reservation through Trivago, which was listed. She said no. I didn't want to argue. I let it go.
The rooms in this hotel are clean but run-down. It is an old building that has undergone little to no remodeling over the years.
The staff, two or three out of the rest, provided good service. I can't say the same about the rest of the staff. Asking for something was like, "Why are you asking for that?" The same thing happened in their restaurant on the first floor. Every time I called the server for something, he felt like he was being bothered. Really? Is that how you give service?
Compared to the Barcelo in Guatemala City, there is a huge day and night difference in service and how the staff approaches the guests.
If I have to rate these two hotels. The Barcelo in GC gets 90/100, and the Radisson in Santo Domingo 41/100.
When I return to Guatemala, I will stay at the Barcelo Hotel again, and a big FAT NO!! to the Radison when I return to Dom Rep later this year.
