Holiday In Sao Paulo

Home to serene rolling hills, lush rainforests and unfettered countryside…São Paulo is not. What it does offer is a playground for the ultimate urban adventure.

If you can make it here, in the largest city in Brazil, you can make it anywhere (cue a Frank Sinatra singalong).

Life in Sampa (the city’s affectionate nickname) is so fast paced the air is practically vibrating. You know what that means: slurping down plenty of espresso so you can keep up. If your idea of fun is going on a scavenger hunt for international cuisine and rowdy underground clubs, you’ll find no better place to visit than São Paulo. Break out your glowsticks (are those still in?) and pack your credit card: São Paulo holiday packages are worth the splurge.

Things to Do in São Paulo

Where should you start your São Paulo holiday? It’s hard to say, but a visit to the Banespa observation deck is as good a place as any. From this vantage point, you can map out the rest of your holiday if you dare (warning: it might take all day). Back on street level, head to the Mercado Municipal and shop for sweets and mind-blowing cuisine beneath exquisite stained glass.

If you need to get a fix of green in the middle of your city adventure, spend a few hours at Parque do Ibirapuera. This two-square km park lets you pretend you’re out of the metropolis for a bit (just don’t look up—skyscrapers are all around and all). For its abundance of concrete, São Paulo also knows a lot about feeding your artistic spirit. Put on your best beret, walk into the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP) with confidence, and say something like, “Yes, this does evoke a sense of childlike wonderment, doesn’t it”?

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

When you take a break from the 24/7 party scene in São Paulo (hey, everyone has to refuel on fresh air and Gatorade at some point), shopping opportunities are waiting to fill the void. Check out the Casa da Vila, a stunning mansion selling fair trade Brazilian crafts. Next stop: Galeria do Rock, otherwise known as seven stories of retail heaven. This will be the time when you silently thank us for cheap São Paulo packages.

No holiday in São Paulo is complete without tasting your way through the delectable parts of the city. Thanks to the huge number of European and Asian immigrants, the diversity of cuisine is unprecedented. If you want to take a bite out of authentic Brazil, order some feijoada stew and grab an empanada for dessert.

Nightlife and daylife look pretty similar in São Paulo some of the clubs don’t close until well after dawn. Pour an energy drink down your gullet and hit the Entertainment Districts (yes, plural) and take your pick of live music, clubs and samba bars. With more than 10,000 bars in the city you’ll never visit them all, but Bela Vista and Jardins are good places to start an epic pub crawl.

What’s Next?

Book one of the cheapest holidays in São Paulo today and start practicing your Portuguese. With about 20 million Paulistanos waiting to welcome you to the city, the least you can do is learn how to say “Olá”. Getting around on foot or public transit is always possible, but then again, one of lastminute.co.nz’s São Paulo car hire deals lets you put your driving skills to the ultimate test.
