The breakfast was adequate. Mostly little bite type muffins. The rooms were clean but thought it was strange that we had to go to front desk for towels each day and that we had to take our own trash to a location. I could see putting it out our door and someone would pick it up and empty it. If the price was discounted because of no services I could see it. It was extremely hard to get someone at the front desk. Calls went unanswered and stood at the desk for many minutes before any person came to help. Been a week and haven't seen my deposit refunded yet, Called and was told it was my bank. That's not true. Bathtub would not drain properly. Stood in back up water for shower than rinsed my feet when I got out. Complained and was told I didn't pull the cover up enough. Both my husband and I pulled it up as far as it would go. It was insinuated it was because we were old that we didn't have the strength.

Honestly the outside of the place was enough to make me to leave and go to a different hotel.

Grand Bear Resort at Starved Rock was one of the most disappointing resort experiences I’ve had in years. The entire property feels badly outdated and poorly maintained. The rooms, common areas, and facilities all look like they’ve been neglected for a long time and are nowhere near what you would expect based on the price or the way the resort markets itself online. What made the experience even worse was the complete lack of transparency during booking. We arrived on a Friday night expecting at least some level of entertainment or amenities to be available, only to find that the bar was CLOSED on a Friday night at a resort. That alone is ridiculous. On top of that, the mini golf was closed and the water park was also closed — two of the major attractions that families specifically book this resort for. At no point during the booking process was there any clear notice that these amenities would not be available. If a resort is going to advertise family attractions and charge resort-level prices, customers deserve honest disclosure before they spend their money and make travel plans. Instead, this felt like a bait-and-switch. You pay expecting a full resort experience and arrive to find multiple amenities unavailable with no warning. The resort appears to be running on the bare minimum while still charging premium prices. The location near Starved Rock is the only redeeming quality, but the resort itself is badly in need of renovation, better management, and basic honesty

Staff member Bonnie was helpful and professional. She gave me asistance with my Android phone, and a good place to eat.

Young woman at check in was so wonderful to speak with. She made sure we had all information needed and just plain kind. She made our stay very nice.

Breakfast was mediocre at best and while the room was clean, the bathroom was definitely not. The unknown brown substance streaked across the wall was the highlight.
