I stayed in a suite at the Royal Sonesta in Portland. It was a wonderful, spacious, whimsical, fabulous room. I highly recommend the suite, which might involve an upgrade. It was totally worth it to have this extra little room. Thei lobby of the hotel is gorgeous, and I appreciated the Continental breakfast. My only regret was that, although I had a $15 credit per night for concession or the attached restaurant, the restaurant was closed, and the concession was very limited. I loved this hotel so much.

Wes Anderson + Basque Chic = Do It!

Super great stay. I used to live in Portland and still come once a month for work, and usually stay on the outskirts to avoid the hustle and bustle (and endless search for parking), but this time, my fiance and I were down for an un-fun situation, so figured we'd treat ourselves for an afternoon and evening taking in a few sights and bites around town. We hesitantly booked the Royal Sonesta knowing it was right in the middle of everything, but they sweetened the deal with a parking package, so we figured why not...let's see what happens. And we loved it. We're both Wes Anderson fans and for some reason it was hard not to feel like we walked onto the offspring of one of his sets and a quaint chateau in coastal Basque country. The carpets were super trippy, the decor super bizarre and the vibe was upscale sarcastic chic - almost like they were aiming to poke fun at the essence of snootiness. The property was beautiful, the room was immaculate and quirky, we got so much natural light from the windows (we got a corner room), the staff (from the front desk to the security guards to the valets to the random operator that picked up the phone at midnight when we were looking for an ice machine) were super helpful, friendly and proactive, the bathrooms were super clean and, most importantly, the bed was comfortable. We truly enjoyed our stay and next time we feel adventurous enough to stay in the heart of downtown, we will stay here again.

Everything was good except the fact that We asked for our room to be serviced and they told us there was nobody available to clean our room because of the high volume of people staying there, as a paying customer we are entitled to these services and I found it unfair, the toilet didn’t flush properly either. And when we asked for water nobody could bring it to our room. Customer service needs more serious attention.

We definitely enjoyed our stay here. The room was enormous and the hotel was quiet despite the downtown location. The “destination fee” is questionable (can be used for breakfast or the lobby “snack bar”). The front desk staff was highly personable and helpful.

Pros and cons, but I'd stay there again.

Overall, I would say that the stay was a positive experience. The main positives were front desk staff, who were very helpful and polite. The hotel and room interior is very nice and room was spacious and clean. The main negatives were that the rooms do not have amenities such as refrigerators or a coffee maker; these may be available upon request, but in my case we could not get a 'fridge. Coffee and tea are available in the lobby, but only 7-10am, which is pretty limited. They also charge a fee which can be applied as a $15 credit that covers breakfast, which is continental, nothing special or particularly great about it- the selection of items was also fairly limited. The location is in a bit of a sketchy area of the city- I would not feel safe walking alone around there at night, although during the day is ok, and it's located near a lot of cool spots.

Lovely stay

This is the 2nd time starting here. The first was great so when we were passing through we thought we'd try it again. So far so good. We did forget that there are no refrigerators in the rooms- at least not in our room. Not that big of deal but we had leftover lunch. Location is great- walkable everywhere. Downtown has improved quite a bit-iykyk.
