The hotel was excellent. Beautiful building with historic features throughout. We loved the 'lodge-style' room in the courtyard, brilliantly quiet and well decorated. Clean and modern with great facilities including: iron and ironing board, tea/coffee tray and in-room safe. The TV was a large wide-screen. Would have wanted a second bedside table as one was missing but that's being picky! Would definitely stay again as the location a short walk from the station and Mickelgate was ideal!

The room was really nice, spacious and clean and we enjoyed breakfast. It was however very noisy and we were kept awake by the people upstairs for a while before bed and were also woken at 5:30am by people opening and closing the doors and being generally noisy and by a van reversing with his sensors beeping right outside our window. We were very disappointed that the pool is not on site and a 15 minute walk away as this is not made clear when booking and is the main reason we chose this hotel. We also were not aware that there are 2 buildings- we were put in the one over the road and not in the actual hotel which may explain why it was so noisy and we felt a bit like the poor relations! Overall an ok stay but wouldn’t stay again unfortunately

Overall very nice. Excellent service - helpful and swapped our room when the heating wasn’t working. We were a bit disappointed with the evening restaurant menu. Food was good but not a very exciting menu. Fresher options would have been nicer than burgers and fish and chips.

Had to make toast seperate when ordered poached eggs so was cold by the time the eggs came. Cant see why the toast couldn't have been done in the kitchen at the same time of the eggs.

This is the best hotel I've stayed in in York and I've stayed in quite a few. Great front desk service, gorgeous decor, lovely room - great decor, comfy bed, lush pillows, nice lighting, powerful shower, blackout curtains, functioning air con / fan / heating system. The school parking is less than 100m walk from the front desk so is no bother to use. Easy access to city centre by uber, walk or bus. Will stay again.

The room was clean, staff were excellent. We stayed in a dog friendly room and we were in the courtyard area. Lovely gesture of a little dog gift box on arrival. Only negative was the heating system was extremely noisy and we were unable to have this on during the night due to the noise.

Everything was really nice and we enjoyed our stay. Rooms were nicely decorated and had a very cosy feel. Perfect pick for visiting the racecourse too. Only downer was the food lorry delivery at 5:55am outside our window that was ridiculously noisy. Went on til 6:35am and there was no chance of going back to sleep. Didn’t bank on waking earlier than I have to normally whilst enjoying a treat away from home. Eating in the restaurant was good but several options were unavailable on the menu and the only white wine they had in stock was Chardonnay. I think both problems were just bad luck for us. Would still recommend.
