The staff were very friendly and the food was fantastic. The room looked great ( king spa chalet room 229). The accommodation was extremely disappointing, the pungent aroma of mould from wet skirting boards was overwhelming. We spoke to the staff and were moved to a different room which was no where near what we had booked, double bed and small tv. We were told that this room (229)had only just been listed again after being closed due to the damage and obviously hadn’t been checked between. For the price we paid even more disappointing. The room we were put in has cobwebs throughout and moldy shower curtains and dripping taps. There wasn’t any dishwashing liquid which spoke with staff about, they got housekeeping to attend to this. Housekeeping didn’t know what a dishcloth was, after explaining what was needed further they asked to refill the container (there wasn’t one). The staff did offer some drinks to apologize. The two star rating is purely due to the amazing staff who shouldn’t be having to deal with so many complaints due to the poor and dangerous condition of the room, these staff are also being exposed to the mould any time they enter the room, airing it out will not fix it.

I understand the place is under renovations but the state of our room was not great, there was blood on my pillow that was visible through the pillowcase. The general state of the room was dank, dirty and unkempt, laminate peeling off all the furniture. Blanket was stained thankfully the aircon worked for heating.

The check in person was super friendly and informative. The room was lovely, spacious and quirky. On the negative side, heat pump was ineffective and bothersome to try and operate, amenities left a bit to be desired. For example no standard teabags only earl grey, which is an acquired taste that myself and many others have not acquired. Wine glasses supplied but no corkscrew (very odd oversight in a wine producing region) and the bar/restaurant lacked any decor appeal or comfortable seating. The single smouldering log on the fire also failed to offer any heat or ambience.

Location was good. No WiFi reception and we were up near the front. TV remote did not match the TV, for example i pressed the volume button and the program guide came up. Heat pump thermostat didn't work, it only went full bore. Below par cooking utensils, for example, no kitchen knife. Big gap around front door. Only had an outdated lock in the door handle. No shelving in the bathroom whatsoever, for example nowhere to place any toiletries. No shelving in the shower. Only two coat hangers for 2 people. No drawers for storing clothes. Bed was comfortable. We did not eat in the Hotel because everytime we walked past the kitchen it had dirty dishes stacked everywhere.

Great location some renovations that will improve the ad hoc nature of the reception and front "Dome" area that didn't have a huge impact on the service and ease to get around. The staff were amazing and friendly. We had great personal service from Sara for overall quality and friendliness including a tour of proposed changes. Sara was aided by the lovely Abbey and Lauren at the bar.

Shout out to Sara for being so friendly on check in. I was upgraded for free to a spa room off the main building which was spacious and recently renovated. Super comfy bed, large TV and a chair which was a perfect reading nook. Right at the start of all the things to see on the main street of Hanhdorf made it a perfect location if you're on foot for your stay.
