What to say about Aitutaki? It’s a large, palm tree-covered stone in the Cook Islands.
There’s beautiful snow-coloured beaches, water more turquoise than your grandma’s jewellery and some of the freshest seafood around in the main village of Arutanga. Check out these Aitutaki packages, book and get going on Cook Islands holidays today, if you can find it.
This going to be interesting because this place is tiny, but let’s go down the rabbit hole, shall we? Start your Aitutaki holiday off with a lovely dive in Aitutaki Lagoon. Say hello to the pretty fishes while swimming in the clearest water you’ve ever seen. After your dive, retire to the beach with a cool cocktail in hand. We think a mai tai will do the trick.
Another activity you can take part in is exploring the island of Tapuaetai (One Foot Island). You can see all of the island in about 20 minutes, and there’s even a sandbar at low tide that allows you to walk out into the lagoon. When you get on the boat back to Aitutaki, drop a troll line in the water and see what you can reel in. Hopefully you’ll snag a mahi mahi.
When you go on a holiday to Aitutaki you have to shop. Granted, there’s not many places to shop, but you’ve just got to. Head to the Aitutaki Market in the main village of Arutanga for some authentic souvenirs. A colourful, hand-woven sarong will go a long way when you bring it home to a special lady-friend. Test out your bargaining skills with one of the local vendors and see if you can get your hands on a necklace of black pearls. No cursed pirates come with these, however.
Even though this is a small island in the middle of the South Pacific, there’s plenty of delicious places to plop down and eat. The main resorts obviously have fine dining pumping out dishes like ika mata (raw tuna) with coconut milk, but don’t turn your back on the hidden gems in the village. Snag a vehicle from lastminute.co.nz’s awesome Aitutaki car hire options and explore the rest of the island in search of food.
Nightlife? Yeah, there’s a nightlife during Aitutaki holidays. The big resorts all have waterfront bars with every tropical drink imaginable, and you’re sure to make friends with fellow travellers. Look into what’s called Pacific or Island Nights—they involve a whole lot of food, singing and dancing. Now…we’re not telling you try fire-eating, but we’re also not telling you to not try it.
Get out of the shade and into the warm South Pacific sun. Our Aitutaki holiday packages are unbeatable and you’d be missing out if you didn’t take advantage of them. Your tropical getaway is waiting!
