Excellent situation

Good renovation of a classic Victorian railway hotel. Rooms clean. Breakfast OK but a cafeteria feel.

The hotel was lovely, the outside was so pretty had tables for you to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine and view so pretty. Inside was lovely, lots of seating areas to relaxour only problems were our window in the bedroom wouldn’t open so we did her quite hot, we had a view of a skip and as we had a cleaners cupboard outside the room it did wake us up a few times early morning. The swimming pool is

Living on faded glory, but good value

It’s a lovely building, but the rooms are a bit run down, and service a bit lacking. . Having said that, it is marvellously cheap, and very conveniently located in the centre of Buxton.

We dont really have a complaint ... just a couple of comments. When we stayed it was a glorious day with record temperatures and the blossoms in the trees where in full bloom. Everything was great and the staff were friendly and helpful. Comments We had what i thought on entry was a compact room due to size, i attended reception and asked if i could pay extra for a standard and was told we were in a standard already - it did seem small. SO ... we paid for an upgrade to a Junior Suit, it cost £40 extra but to be fair it was fabulous. The bar closed at 10:30 on a hot spring evening with plenty of guests still looking to enjoy the weather and sit outside or in the bar. Breakfast finishes at 930 which i think is early for a location that has a more "mature" clientele. Checkout is 10:00am which again i think is early. Most hotels are 11:00am with an option to noon. Finally - the lift is scary ... i know its old. I get it. So am i but the lift creaks more than i do. As i started with not complaints .. just comments. Overall the stay was great and we are already looking to come back in the summer.

Public area in the hotel are very nice but the rooms are pretty dated for the price. Also parking and use of the spa was at additional cost which is annoying given the cost of the rooms. Buxton overal is a lovely place to visit though!

Looks impressive externally and lobby. Rooms dated with dark decor. No housekeeping provided. No shower mat provided so had to use towel on floor. Beds comfortable. Relatively quiet. Dinner service good and quick

The hotel was nicely presented, clean and the staff were very helpful. The room itself was a little shabby and in need of some updating. Some items were mismatched and the toiletries were terrible, but everything was clean and the beds were comfy. Dinner was nice and the service was quick. The lady in the lounge bar who brought our coffee was absolutely lovely - couldn't do enough for us. I wish I'd thought to get her name. I'd definitely stay again.

We recently stayed at the Palace Hotel in Buxton and, unfortunately, left feeling disappointed. While the building itself holds undeniable historic charm, it’s clear the property has seen better days and is in need of serious attention to bring it back to its former glory. The biggest letdown was the dining experience on our first night. We both ordered the pork belly, which arrived smothered in a beige-orange sauce that overwhelmed the entire dish—any other flavours were completely lost. The restaurant appeared understaffed, and our drinks didn’t arrive until we were nearly finished with our mains. To their credit, the staff did comp the drinks due to the delay, but the overall experience put us off dining there again. The dessert, a cheesecake, seemed to be cut from a tray and was cloyingly sweet, with little depth of flavour. The room itself was unremarkable. We’d booked a double but were given two singles pushed together, topped with a thin mattress cover that did little to disguise the gap or add comfort. The room and adjoining bathroom were dated, and the bathroom’s extraction fan was not strong enough to deal with moisture properly. All in all, the hotel has potential, but it’s clear that it's currently coasting on its once-grand reputation rather than delivering a genuinely comfortable and enjoyable experience. We'd recommend spending less and stay at the local Premier Inn which we've found to be a standardised comfortable stay that is good value.

While not desperately in need of a refurb the hotel could definitely do with an update/modernising. It currently has a very end of Empire feel to the place. Parking is chargeable. The pool and leisure facilities are chargeable. The bed was possibly the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever attempted to sleep on. Positives? It was cheap and clean, so from that point of view it was exactly what I was after.
