Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Excellence. While the resort itself appears a bit more dated compared to other adult-only all-inclusive resorts we've visited, the staff does a commendable job of attending to guests' needs. Check-in took approximately 45 minutes, which felt somewhat lengthy, though our upgrade to an ocean-view room likely contributed some extra time. Here are a few observations and takeaways that might be helpful for those considering this resort: The food was excellent for the most part, and I highly recommend the sea bass at Chez Isabelle (French cuisine). Basmati (Indian cuisine) was also delicious. Spice (Asian cuisine) was less of a hit for us personally, but others raved about the hibachi experience. Please note that a reservation is required for hibachi dinners. We also enjoyed the sea bass at Flavor Market, which was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Jose provided excellent service at Flavor Market and truly made our night special. The drinks were excellent whether we ordered them at the bar, in a restaurant, or beachside. I must give a special shout-out to Lucia, who served us food and drinks on the days we spent at the beach. She was truly delightful and significantly enhanced our beach experience. On Lucia’s day off, Santos took excellent care of us as well. There is one coffee shop located in the main building. The drinks and food there were wonderful, and we enjoyed an evening coffee there most nights of our stay. Every restaurant offered vegan optio

Do not go here if you have allergies! They cannot accommodate properly. And they don’t even seem interested in trying too hard. I had to basically get the attention of the general manager before anyone would take me seriously. The place was designed to look pretty but it is very inconvenient to get around. There are lots of pools but there are very few chairs so unless you can get up at 7am to save some you will have to sit on the beach. The entertainment is the same as its been for the last 20 years, but I was very disappointed that the evening activities ended early (if it was called to end at 11 then they kicked the guests out 10-15minutes before so that it could be mostly torn down by 11). Same thing at breakfast…ends at 11 means that all the tables are taken away and the food is all done so don’t show up at 10:45 and expect to get any breakfast. The room service is horrible so do not bother!

Too far away when you want to leave the property. I had to pay over $100 every time we wanted to go into town. Communication through Expedia with Excellence is non-existant. They insist that you use Expedia for all correspondence with the hotel. They never answer when you go through Expedia and if you call them direct to make changes to your reservation they tell you they can't help you and you need to back to Expedia so your needs are never addressed. I had an agent at the hotel hang up on me when I asked to speak to a manager. The restaurant 'The Lobster House' didn't have lobster available for the five days we stayed at the hotel, which was very disapointing to us as my spouse had never tried lobster. All in all an average stay. I expected so much more out of a five star establishment. The amount of pushback I received really soured my experience. I won't be returning.

The staff is exceptional but I would recommend a few things in the way of entertainment. Perhaps live music at the pool, more activities pool side ie. pool games, dance lessons, cooking class ( salsa or guacamole lessons), etc.

The property was clean, and that was the only good thing. The food selection was terrible. Although the site states there is a lunch buffet, the buffet was only open for breakfast. They fail to tell you it's a salad bar for lunch with an à la Carte menu recycled from the other restaurants. When we ordered lunch at the poolside, we were limited to a few items and had to wait an hour to get it. Restaurant options for dinner were limited, and the food was subpar. Could not eat it many nights. The staff at the breakfast buffet were almost rude and felt like a chore when asked for a table of 6. They made no effort to accommodate, even though we could see vacant tables that could be put together. Not worth the thousands we paid for 5 nights. Will not be returning there.

Recently my husband and I stayed at this property (April 2025). We decided to upgrade to a 2-story rooftop terrace suite. Upon arrival we headed up to the rooftop to check out the plunge pool. Besides the empty coke bottle that was left at the side of the pool, we immediately noticed that the water in the pool looked stagnant. We tried turning the pool on. The way it works is once on, there are 2 pipes that gush out water continuously in order to give a waterfall effect. this did not occur. Instead of gushing water, it was a dribble at best. We immediately informed maintenance and the front desk who advised someone would look at it the next morning. The next day we enjoyed our day by the beach and went back to the room in the afternoon to enjoy our rooftop pool. It was sill not working! We called maintenance again and were advised someone would be sent right away. We waited in our room for 3 hours, no one showed up. The next morning we went to the front desk and spoke with a manager who advised he would personally see to it. After breakfast we spoke with him again and he advised it was now working. That afternoon we went back to the room, it was not working. At that point management did have maintenance come to the room while we were there and they were able to fix it. Finally we thought we could enjoy what we paid for! The fix was very temporary, as the next day it did not work again. Basically we paid extra for a room we couldn't use. And we found a cockroach in our room!
