Very good

No aircon so was very hot for the two hottest days of the year so far. No plugs near a mirror so can’t blow dry in front of it. Pillows are uncomfortable. Bathroom door wouldn’t shut, could only keep it closed by locking it (so after using it for smellier needs you just had to let the smell into the room), sink didn’t drain properly, shower didn’t work properly (overhead had no pressure, the movable shower head had three options for the spray but only one worked and the pressure kept forcing it to move and end up spraying the wall), TV kept randomly turning on (including early hours of the morning waking me up at 4am). Wasn’t really anything particularly positive to the stay.
Unpleasant stay
Building works and loud music all day
Bathroom facilities not maintained
No toilet brush provided
Mould on bath panel
Never answer the telephone when you phone them
Fire alarm went off and left on cold for 30 mins with no one communicating with guests
Rooms are too hot
Rooms are tired
The list is endless
Wouldn’t recommend this hotel other than its location within the town centre.
The room was ok very hot. I couldn't sleep without the window open but was really noisy. The Tv remote didn't work, and the kettle wouldn't stop boiling I had to turn it off at the wall and the handle was really hot. Could if done with more toilet paper.
The hotel try to charge me more. I booked via Expedia’s and pay to the hotel. But the hotel either trying to scam me or bad system, they said my rate per night is £180 instead of £90. Then I showed them the confirmation from Expedia. They have to asked me to get the correct rate. Then when check out, they said there is something wrong with our payment!!! We already paid in full when checking in, of course we refused to pay more. Terrible service. Also the rooms are in poor condition. Try to avoid this hotel if you can.
Our families stayed in 4 different rooms. Each rooms had different broken, not matching or missing items. For example, one room has mirror but the other one hasn’t, the shower gel didn’t got refill, the shower door almost came off. However, the rooms were all pretty clean.
We thought nothing of staying in a city centre hotel. Sadly we got a total of 2 1/2 hours sleep. The rooms are not remotely soundproof and the pubs surrounding it dont close until 3 AM. Then you can throw in 2 hours of people running down corridors, shouting and banging on doors. The heating is on or off. The control for this is at the hotel 30 metres down the road. The bed was two singles vaguely pushed together. The wet room was just that, im guessing the drain was blocked so the bedroom quickly became part of it. The sideboard was falling off so we didnt dare put anything on it. The guy working reception on our arrival was ok. The lady on reception in the morning ignored us and the breakfast staff did a fine job of making us feel like a nuisance. If anyone had asked about our stay at the time this review would have that as a positive. Sadly they didnt. Absolutely wouldnt recommend unless you are 20 years old and dont sleep
Managed to get parked at the George Hotel across the road for £12.50 for the night. Room at this hotel didn’t have air con but there was a fan. Really good shower, tea coffee etc (no fridge) there was also an iron and hairdryer. Room was positioned above the High Street and we stayed on a Saturday night so there were some noises from the street but that’s to be expected. The hotel itself was quiet and very much the kind of thing you’d expect at a Premier Inn. We would stay again if needing somewhere in Colchester
Disappointing stay. The bathroom was unclean and had multiple hairs on the toilet; the toilet seat was stained yellow. The bed linen had fresh blood stains on. I contacted reception and they quickly apologised and changed my room - so very responsive. The room moved to was cold, and just had a portable oil heater to plug in to heat. Cleanliness was still of a low standard with stained fixtures and fittings. Net curtains were thick with dust.
No WiFi password provided. Guidebook qr code takes you to the main hotel information - but not St Nicholas. I had to phone reception to get the code.

Nice but more attention needed to rooms
Stayed for 1 night. Upon arrival you have to check in across the road at St George's Hotel. Check in went smoothly but once we got to our room I realised there was no WiFi password provided and the room was freezing cold. Had to go back across the road where I was given the WiFi password and heating was turned on. The room itself was okay with a nice balcony. I stayed on a Friday night so quite noisy from the bars/clubs, didn't bother me as I am a deep sleeper. The only issues I had with the room is
- sticky handles
-stains on the wall
- Handwash dispenser empty
- limescale around the shower tray
-more attention needed to toilet cleaning.
Was a nice clean comfortable room but very noisy. Didn’t get much sleep due to the noise from the clubs and pubs. I should have realised when I booked it that it would have been noisy so partly my fault.
My daughter had a cheerleading competition all weekend so was extremely tired on the Sunday morning performing with no sleep. Apart from the noise, was a nice hotel

Terrible experience for the cost. The checkin for the hotel is in a different hotel across the road. No heating in the room. Very stark room designed for disabled users, noisy nightclub across the road.
Was not told that there was on-going maintenance works. It started at 07:30 am in the morning which completely ruined the stay. I would not recommend this hotel. Made a complaint through Expedia and apparently the hotel didn’t even respond.
