Nice bright public areas though the bedrooms are clearly in need of some updating and the hotel’s definition of a deluxe suite is a bit ambitious. The full sea view was simply a narrow view of the harbour. Not worth the extra cost. Go for a side sea view on the pool side for a better vista. Had specifically requested a high floor room in advance of arrival but was given a room on the first floor, one above the ground even though there are 10 floors. Disappointing. Bar area packed with no seating or tables available. Nearly 100 steps out to the street or a very steep slope. Despite the downsides, place is comfortable, good choice for breakfast, very convenient for Valetta

Loved Malta stay at Grand Hotel Excelsior. The moment we walked in we were greeted by friendly staff and welcome drink. Raj Kumar was very friendly and helpful from front desk. He guided us on taking the Gozo day trip on our own. Excellent customer service by Raj and all others at the hotel. Reading some negative reviews on the hotel I was bit hesitant on booking, but the hotel exceeded our expectations. Hotel is walkable to the main center of Valleta. Rooms were spacious with daily housekeeping. We enjoyed our stay three days stay with Excelsior. Breakfast was good with ample choices. We would certainly stay here on our next Malta trip. Highly recommend it.

Staff were excellent including front deal, restaurant, concierge and tour desk. Provided valuable assistance and advice. They recommended a superb restaurant for dinner one night (?Remplia) and we booked a private tour one day that took us around with a great local Driver/guide. The public areas inside the hotel are spacious and “grand”. The rooms are comfortable but dated- worn carpet and awful looking bedspreads…. But removing the bedspread revealed a bright white duvet, so we left that exposed. The exterior looks a bit worn too. One area is under renovation. Indoor pool was warm and quite large, and we used it several times. Best part that makes this excellent value, and that would lead us to stay here again, is the location. Just a few minutes walk to the Valletta city gates. We walked up there most days. Overall a very satisfying stay!

3 night stay in Malta, the hotel was more then I expected! Very upscale from what we usually stay at. The staff was very professional and courteous. The room was large and spacious. Breakfast was fantastic! The area is very clean and felt very safe. Close to many things.

Superb hotel within easy walk of the city

Had 4 nights here and loved it from start to finish. Lots of really nice little touches to make it feel a bit special. Great breakfasts, free parking and literally a 5 minute walk to the city centre.

The property was a pleasant surprise. Whilst dated and in some places showing signs of wear (toilets and bathrooms) , the staff were so friendly and the amenities are excellent. Ideally located within minutes of Valetta, they have a shuttle that runs every 20 mins to take you up the hill (though it wasn't as bad as the pictures make out!) We will go back again!

City Centre

Rather dark corridors and dated appearance. Luxurious space and good location to walk (uphill) to Valetta but that was it. Other 5 star hotels offer nicer surroundings and better breakfasts. Reasonable rates make it a cheaper alternative to Phoenicia a short distance away.
