Holiday In Greater Glasgow
Do you know what the Scottish Gaelic word Glaschu translates to? Yes, it’s Glasgow, the capital of the country where William Wallace screamed “Freedom!!!”
The place where men can walk around in long plaid skirts and be considered manly men. The place where bagpipes, glasses of scotch and a plate of haggis is just another Saturday night.

Things to Do in Glasgow
Welcome to Scotland! Get yourself a modern carriage from one of lastminute.co.nz’s Glasgow car hire options and drive over to the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, the country’s oldest museum. It covers five different buildings under one umbrella, ranging from an art gallery to a zoology museum. There’s a sarcophagus from ancient Egypt, pretty pictures by Rembrandt and dinosaur fossils from the real Jurassic Park.
Thirsty yet? Good. Head a few kilometres north of the city to the Glengoyne Distillery. This place has been in continuous operation since 1833, the only changes being in the personnel. There’s a number of different tours. Check out the Wee Tour, which guides you through a tasting of each whiskey produced. Or you can indulge in a Whiskey & Chocolate Tour. What more could you ask for during a holiday in Glasgow than a whiskey and chocolate pairing session?
Shopping, Dining & Nightlife
So you’re hanging about, enjoying your Glasgow holiday, when suddenly…the shopping bug bites you! What do you do? Well, there’s two places you need to check out. First, make your way down Buchanan Street, the city’s most famous shopping district. There’s also St. Enoch Centre, a massive mall in central Glasgow. Interesting fact: The mall is known as “The Glasgow Greenhouse” because it’s illuminated by natural light during the day.
Are you craving a plate of haggis, neeps and tatties? The city centre and its three districts, Townhead, Charing Cross and Cowcaddens, are all jammed with places to eat. Wherever you eat, be sure to order up a plate of rumbledethumps. We don’t know what it is, but that name is just so cool! How could you not get it?
Here comes the night—title of a great song by Them, by the way—now what do you do? The West End is a great place to begin your after-hours adventures. After that you can head down Sauchiehall Street for more Scottish ales. You should end up in Merchant City near downtown. Many of the hotels you get with our Glasgow packages are located around here, so your stumble—uh, we mean walk—home will be short.
What’s Next?
It’s time for you to pay a visit to England’s northern neighbour, wouldn’t you say? We know your craving for haggis is growing, so get yourself a Glasgow package from our awesome selection and we’ll see you in a month or so. Especially if you decide to extend your trip—why not check out Jolly Old England? One of our London holiday packages will get you there. Cheerio!
