Disliked: Cleanliness
We stayed in this unit on the last week of summer 2025.I don’t generally write reviews, most of you probably don’t for the same reasons. I will though, if I am particularly impressed with the subject.Pros • The view. If you want nature, it’s as raw as you’ll find it on HHI. No pythons eating alligators or vice versa, but a good slice of the local biosphere is represented. • The appliances, new and in good condition.Cons • Unit readiness. We had requested, were granted and paid an additional fee for an early arrival. When we arrived just before our allotted time for our self check-in, the unit had not been cleaned and prepped. • Furnishings. If any of the furniture was purchased new or purchased at all, I’ll eat your hat. When I was a college student, the furnishings looked just like mine. • HVAC may have been adequate if 40% of the blinds on the western-exposed floor-to-ceiling windows were not FUBAR. In the afternoon, with a 74 setpoint, the main room was at 84. • Inoperable lighting and outlets. Most worked, but it was hit-or-miss. • Finishes. The millwork was more reminiscent of a fish shack with rough lumber (painted, though) on doorjambs and other openings. We have stayed on Deer Island previously and love it. If I were staying at an eco-lodge in Costa Rica, I wouldn’t be writing this review. The unit is simply not ready for commercial rental.
