This was one of my favorite hotel experiences. The hotel and room were beautiful and clean. We had an excellent view of Kyoto Tower from our room, THE best shower pressure and temperature of any hotel, and we slept like babies. We really enjoyed the Lounge. My husband would go downstairs early for coffee and we’d bring dessert there in the evening after exploring all day before going up to our room. We even made a friend there one morning :-). The staff in the hotel including Kitchen Kanra were so attentive and friendly. Will be recommending to friends planning to visit Kyoto and will definitely be back!

Such a great hotel designed in traditional Japanese style. The room is very large by any standard. We love the decor, free drinks, and the staff was so polite. They let us borrow some umbrellas for the whole day since it was raining.

We had the BEST time ever at this property. The staff, food, spa, rooms, everything was on spot. The breakfast buffet was unbelievable and when I asked about gluten and dairy free options the chef had every morning baked gluten free amazing buns. The spa was amazing. We stayed 3 nights and wanted to stay more, thanks again for having us.

The stay in my room was magnificent. Room was large and clean. Only bad part was vibes at check out. when i checked out was at11:30 and they kept rushing me with phone calls to the room to tell me i'm late at 11:33. Just made me feel unwelcome because i was checking out and they don’t need to care about me as a guest. So i’m not sure if i’ll return or recommend it because of that.

Stunning room, great hotel and great staff. The only thing, if I’m being picky, is the housekeeping that finishes before 1pm. Since we were jet lagged, it was really hard for us to make it on time to get our rooms done.

Can we give this hotel more than 5 stars? From check in to check out, this experience was incredible. The hotel staff was more than accommodating and hospitable and the room was unique and beautiful. The hotel was very close to the train station and we always felt happy returning to this hotel. Even when we didn't have our room cleaned, the staff left a fresh set of towels and a bath mat by our door. The cleanliness and attention to detail was unparalleled. Thank you Hotel Kanra!

Great place, service - not so much

Beautiful place. Spacious, clean, well maintained, good location. The only issue we had was when we checked out we asked for a cab to the train station. They said they would get us a cab but we had to stay in the lobby. We waited for 10 minutes before they said they couldn't get us a cab and left us with heavy bags to walk over a mile in the snow. We were shocked and disappointed - particularly since we stayed in their most expensive room for 4 nights. We barely made it to the station. If we were an older couple, we would not have made it. The staff made very little effort to help us. I thought the way we were treated at check-out was very unprofessional.

Absolutely loved this hotel, favorite stay of the trip without a doubt. Staff were very welcoming from the beginning and it was a nice mix of modern and traditional. I think it's a perfect stay for large groups, considering how spacious the rooms are which is rare in Japan. A bit pricey but worth it and hope to come back someday soon.
