We enjoyed the excellent location- right near the Hop-on-hop-off buses where all their routes start. Also the staff on the reception and in the breakfast room were amazing and very friendly. Breakfast was great with everything from omelettes to yogurts. We highly recommend this hotel- great value for your money.

I recently stayed at Hotel Excelsior in Lisbon, and it was a very pleasant experience. The hotel is perfectly located, just a short walk from Marquês de Pombal Square and close to public transportation, which made exploring Lisbon incredibly easy. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with everything I needed for a good stay. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always ready to give advice on places to visit and how to get around. Breakfast was fresh and satisfying, with a nice selection to start the day. The overall atmosphere felt welcoming and safe, which is especially important when staying in a new city. What I appreciated most was the combination of good value, central location, and attentive service. It’s not a luxury hotel, but it offers exactly what you need for a comfortable and convenient stay in Lisbon. I would definitely recommend Hotel Excelsior to anyone looking for a solid, well-located base to explore the city.

No care to maintain room, terrible wear and tear

This is a basic hotel at best. The beds and linens were clean, breakfast was decent, but the overall condition of the room was terrible. The closet door frame was half broken off, there was a missing light cover so the fluorescent lightbulb was super bright at eye level, the bottom of the bathroom door was fraying so it dragged as you open it, the curtains were ripped off the bracket, the shower curtain was crooked and sliding down, etc. Absolutely no care in maintaining this room and making it minimally presentable. I paid €120 and feel very ripped off. Thank goodness we were only there one night.

I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel. The entire property is extremely rundown with poor or nonexistent maintenance. Everything in the room felt old, broken, or heavily used. The biggest disappointment was the food. The complimentary breakfast was truly awful—none of my four family members returned after the first day. The food was not fresh and looked like leftovers. Even the coffee was bad. You’re much better off finding breakfast outside the hotel; we found far better options nearby. I considered canceling our stay the moment I saw the room, but unfortunately, it was too late. This was a very disappointing experience overall, and I would not stay here again.

Good, but stinky

Good location, friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast included. Rooms are small with limited space. Unfortunately the room smelled strongly of sewer coming from the WC.
