The young guy on reception was very polite and helpful. The rooms are basic, but clean and the beds are comfortable - the view over the lake to the mountains is stunning. But omg New Zealand, home of sandflies, put insect screens on windows!😀

Nobody was at the front desk and no keys were left for us; I was going to take the keys from a different customer but luckily a nearby truck food person helped us find the people responsible for the front desk, a couple of backpackers

The entire complex looks ready for a major renovation: the buildings look very tired and the grounds, especially at the rear of buildings, were overgrown and unkempt. Our room was clean and tidy enough although the skirting in the bathroom was rotten - the interior of the room looked untouched since the 1970s. We were embarrassed to think that overseas guests would be staying here. We expected much better for what we paid to stay here. A disappointing experience.

The rooms were nothing like the advertised ones on Expedia website. I suspect we paid for something but we’re allocated a considerably inferior room. Bed had no sheets on it and looked dirty. The overall condition of the property is terrible and overgrown. Bar and cafe onsite advertised has not been open for 4 years. We saw a rat run through the long grass outside the door. This made our decision to abandon the booking and go elsewhere easy. Nobody in reception and no one answered the phone. I insist we get a full refund.

If you have no expectations of this hotel you won't be disappointed. The whole place has been woefully neglected for some time, everything about it is old and tatty. The lovely young Spanish couple who appear to currently be managing were wonderful and very helpful when we needed to change rooms as the advertised wifi was virtually non-existent and only accessible near to the office. Apart from the staff we interacted with, the only positive thing about this place is the view, but then nature rarely disappoints. Yes, the sheets and towels were clean as was the bathroom but the shower barely has enough pressure to rinse the soap off, and the shower drain can't quite cope with the water that does come out. The blind on the bedroom window had no control chain, and there was an inadequate amount of cutlery, plates and glasses. It is convenient for th RealNZ Doubtful Sound excursion but staying in Te Anau 20 minutes up the road would also be fine. We only booked here because there was little else available but they have no business charging what they do for what you get. It seems that because of the lack of accomodation in the area hotels are able to charge a premium for sub-par accomodation.

Not as bad as other reviews make out. Easy check-in, room not fully serviced but clean towels replaced. 'Camp' kitchen for cooking meals (byo bowls!). Cleanliness as good as you can expect for a well- worn room. Could do with a mow & whippersnip around the place and a lot of T& C. Lake view is awesome from front rooms!

I would have given this so called hotel a zero if I could!! Terrible stay, dirty bathroom with no tissues! Light broken , phone broken ! No microwave , no sink It was a disaster !! We left at 6 am ! Never book there

The room was in poor repair, paint peeling off the shower wall, cracks, dirty, the room smelled, the outside walk way was sheeting that felt like you might fall through. The fire escape didn't go to the ground and no way for it to do so. There was no elevator or AC as they claim. They didn't empty the garbage. claimed.

This place had 2 things going for it and one was the view from our room and the second was the bed was comfortable. Shower held together with string. Microwave dubious. Cutlery - nothing other than a cup and saucer. No bowl, no plates. Room definately in need of an upgrade re curtains and heater. Also false advertising as Te Annau was placed first in front of Manapouri Lakeside Hotel . Being unfamiliar with the area I had assumed the accommodation was in Te Anau and not 20 km away in Manapouri. I actually thought Manapouri was the name of the hotel !

They actaully didn't have the room they advertised. No reception on arrival, no key, nothing. We were stranded in Manapouri. We were also not the only ones who ended up with no accommodation that day. I would like an explanation.

For some reason they’ve decided to use frosted glass on the doors to the rooms so at 6am your room is as bright as it is outside with no option of covering. I was going to get a coffee from the room to help with being woken up so early but they’ve decided to stock the rooms with plunger coffee, but no plunger. Fortunately the breakfast advertised around the motel inexplicably wasnt on because I can’t imagine that would have been much better. The two people on reception were housekeeping and have seemingly been abandoned by management to deal with the place themselves, so no shade to them personally.
My room from around 6am onwards.
