If you still have some puff left, you should see more of the Greek Mainland region. Greek Mainland boasts beaches, coastal plains and rivers. Commonly visited Greek Mainland tourist destinations include the castles, traditional villages and old towns. In this region of Greece, energetic types can enjoy snowboarding and skiing.

Kifisia is 17 kilometres to the southwest of Marathon and is where you'll find the Goulandris Natural History Museum and Kavoutsakis Art Institute. The Life Gallery and Hotel Pentelikon are a few of the short and long-stay options in Kifisia. Alternatively, you could stay in Palaio Faliro, 35 kilometres to the southwest of Marathon, where you'll find the New Hotel and Athenaeum InterContinental. If you're staying in Palaio Faliro, set aside some time to check out the Flisvos Marina and Averof Museum.

Just because you are far from home, doesn't mean you can't indulge in your obsession for sport. You will find Athens Olympic Stadium 25 kilometres to the southwest of Marathon. Book a hotel close to the action at the Hotel Pentelikon or the Semiramis Hotel.

If you plan on flying into Marathon, Eleftherios Venizelos Airport is your most practical option. It is 25 kilometres from the heart of Marathon. The Sofitel Athens Airport is a nearby hotel.
