We were a group of three families who took four royal rooms for six nights. Food and beach view from the restaurant awesome. Some of the waiters at Royal were not friendly to us since we had small children and they kept on spilling water on the table. We didn’t feel welcomed always. Royal front desk was friendly but untrained. I got locked out of my room almost everyday . They were not able to fix our bracelets to work properly. Xcarat unlimited was awesome which is why we chose this place . Landscape and grounds, and lagoon all are beautiful. We are at the main buffet once and beach cafe , snack bar once and then la Hacienda Mexican restaurant once. Food was alright but won’t exceed expectations in those places. Royal food is beyond awesome. What we paid for the rooms is just worth the food we got .

Great location, the xcaret park is beautiful and there is plenty to do without purchasing extras. If you want to rent a car i recommend doing so through one of the agencies in Playa del Carmen, youll save a ton of money and there are many beautiful sites to explore around the area, everything can be done without tour guides, and going at your own pace is much more enjoyable.

Beatify property, good food, lovely setting, great options between pools, beach area and adult beach/ pool and friendly staff. Having Xcaret park right next-door is an awesome option if you buy into that package - well worth it!

Our experience at Occidental Xcaret was unfortunately disappointing, partly due to a terrible start caused by Expedia. They sold us a package with the wrong final destination, forcing us to spend extra time and money to fix their issue — which already left us stressed and frustrated when we arrived. At the resort, things didn’t improve much. The all-inclusive service had very limited hours, which we found surprising and inconvenient. Despite the resort advertising multiple à la carte restaurants, we were only able to book two nights during our stay because the resort was full. My recommendation is to never buy any package from Expedia — even the hotel employees made it clear that you receive fewer benefits when you book through them. Overall, the experience did not meet our expectations for a relaxing vacation.

We enjoyed our stay in April - with warm days and cool nights. The beach lagoon was our favorite spot. Lots of fish! We saw plenty of animals around the resort - flamingos, parrots, iguanas, monkeys. Room was dated, but comfortable and clean, and fridge was kept stocked with drinks. Food was good, plenty of options with the buffets and restaurants. Service was great. The resort is huge, so there's a lot of walking. We had a great stay!

The premises are beautiful. Love the proximity to Xcaret Park. The food is good. Lots to choose from. Thanks to Lucia and Miguel for their attentiveness at the Buffet. They make you feel welcomed. This was our fourth time staying at Occidental and we will be staying in our next trip.

This is the second time to this resort and the people are amazing. The amount of driven carts on the paths are ridiculous. They go too fast and I just want to walk around and not in a straight line. Also, there was no hot water, warm, but not hot. The property seemed a little more tired this time. Still amazing but needs some rethinking.
