Nice comfy hotel just a little tired in places.

Nice hotel friendly staff Dated and tired in places, lacks some TLC Big of a fusty smell in the corridor leading to bedrooms, I have visited before 6 months ago and it’s the same stench needs looking into. Restaurant food mediocre nothing exciting but edible. We stayed in hotel for good as the M6 traffic had gridlocked us in. But wouldn’t eat in restaurant again. We did like the hotel & for the money paid was fair and would use again,

What a great hotel …. Loved our short stay

The personnel were absolutely lovely and helpful. Anne was wonderful and she had organised our meal after the kitchen had closed for a function. Everyone was so cheerful including the morning breakfast staff who were absolutely run off their feet as the hotel was quite full. We loved the whole Fawlty Towers set up :)

Because I booked through a 3rd party I was charged £5 to get out of the car park. The room was grubby and the shower would only give boiling hot water.

Faulty towers

Deluxe rooms don't have a view of the picturesque river. You now have to pay for parking. The shower thermostats in almost all the rooms I've stayed in have all been poor.

I stopped for two nights, the first being booked as a member of the Macdonald hotels website. I then needed to extend my stay by a further night. I had booked a non refundable tariff so could not cancel and re book a 2 night stay, so opted to book an additional night. To my surprise I found that booking via Expedia was around £14 less expensive that booking direct. When I checked in, the staff at first said they would reduce my first night's tariff to match the Expedia rate, then changed their mind. I spoke to the manager who was pretty unsympathetic and did not seem concerned about the issue and was intransigent in her attitude to do absolutely nothing about it at all, and even had the cheek to suggest that I had saved over £20 by booking in advance rather than booking on the day. In the end, our conversation was becoming somewhat terse and so it ended. Even a good will gesture of a complimentary drink or similar might have diffused the situation but nothing was forthcoming. I find it bewildering that by being a loyal member of the company website, I was not able to obtain the least expensive rate. How does this promote brand loyalty? When I checked in, I asked the receptionist if a colleague who was due to arrive after me might be allocated a room close by and was assured that their room was indeed close by. When they arrived, however, they were allocated a ground floor room, while I was on the second floor. Hardly close by. There was no mention of the newly introduced £5 p

It took 10 mins before anybody came to reception to give us our key, the first room we were given smelt really bad, and whilst the second room didn’t smell, it wasn’t particularly clean. Overall, the hotel seemed very tired.

unclear pricing at Tickled Trout

Really disappointed to find that additional parking charge is added to my bill on arrival. That was not clear in the booking process and I believe I had a fixed price with only breakfast added as an additional cost. This is really not clear. Gives a very poor first impression.

£5 to park your car in the hotel car park ?????

Hotel is good for the price but spoilt by lack of care- curtain where hanging off and light outside in the hall was off so needed to use torch on my phone to find the key whole. Also the fact that you have to pay £5 to park your car is not hi-lighted enough. Bit of a con really as the hotel is beside the motorway and no other place you can park ????
