Run down and not disability friendly hotel
While the staff are helpful and courteous, the hotel is poorly maintained and badly designed.
There was no prior information about parking charges. The first room (61) was difficult to find, and upon arrival, I almost stepped on a loose nail from a detached wall kickboard (which I had to move back to the wall). The thin windows let in loud road noise, the shower curtain pole was rusted, the bath soap holder was broken, and the table’s veneer was peeling.
There were no power sockets within a metre of the bed, which I needed for my medical device. After checking two other rooms, they placed me in a disabled-accessible room.
As someone with wheelchair-bound family members, I found it disappointing. When considering wheelchair bound customers, a stain on the floor greeted me, the wardrobe was inaccessible, and the fridge (which could be used for medication) was unplugged with no way to turn it on. The fridge door opened the wrong way, the kettle was too high, and the bathroom towel rail was difficult to reach. The room faced the car park, but excessive furniture would make it hard for a wheelchair user to close the curtains.
Definitely not what I expect from a Mercure or for the price paid given there were much cheaper options available with higher quality nearby.
Oh and the heating doesnt appear to work, small portable radiators not btu suitable for the room size are provided without explanation that the heating isn’t timed.
