Book Tongariro hotels

There isn't a big range of hotels within a short drive of Tongariro, so we recommend that you book ASAP if you're planning on staying in a central Tongariro hotel.

Lovely as Tongariro is, hotel choices here are a little on the thin side. A great choice is the Tongariro Holiday Park, which is just a stone's throw from the CBD.

The River Birches is 18 kilometres from the centre of Tongariro. Alternatively, the Tongariro Lodge can be found 19 kilometres away. Two other places to stay include the Turangi Trout Lodge and the Oreti Village Resort.

Don't skedaddle without taking a look at what is on offer in the wider region of Tongariro National Park. Visit the art museums in North Island, or simply head off with that someone special and enjoy the area's beaches, coastal plains, forests and rivers. Adventurous travellers can enjoy snowboarding, skiing and tobogganing in this part of New Zealand.

The closest places to stay in Tongariro National Park are Whakapapa and Ohakune. Whakapapa is 18 kilometres to the south of Tongariro, while Ohakune is 45 kilometres to the southwest of Tongariro. Hotels in Whakapapa include the Chateau Tongariro Hotel and Skotel Alpine Resort. Ohakune hotels are the Tussock Grove Boutique Hotel and Ohakune Court Motel.

Taupo Airport is the most practical airport for flying in and out of Tongariro and is 55 kilometres from the heart of town. If you would like to stay nearby, try the Sacred Waters or the Hilton Lake Taupo.
