Very good

Check in staff honestly could not be bothered. Hastily given directions to room only when asked. We were not told the air con system didn’t work. Coming down to breakfast the wait staff were all sat on the stairs near the bottom. This was our second stay. We loved it two years ago but the staff are letting the place down now.
The property was stunning.
Unfortunately the key card stopped working a few times. Not usually an issue but we were at the very top floor so lots of steps back and forth.
Breakfast was lovely and breakfast waiting staff were very friendly.
It was ideal location to walk around to Blenheim Palace.
Really enjoyable break - only recommendation would be maybe install air con in the rooms - we did stay over the hottest week of the year so far & it was extremely warm in the room

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
We stayed at the Bear about 20 years ago and returned for a birthday celebration. The hotel is looking very tired and well past the time for a refurbishment. The service was ok but we needed to prompt them to get our room cleaned after 2.00 pm and to take our breakfast order. Disappointed over all.

All staff very friendly and helpful
Been several times before and will continue to visit when in the area
Great location in the heart of the old town and within 100 mtrs of public footpath access into Blenheim Park.
Room was on ground floor and was clean and comfortable.
Service at breakfast was first class with well trained attentive staff
Convenient on site parking.
The Park suite we had was very comfortable with enough space for us as we had large luggages. It was also convenient to walk around the lovely Woodstock town and also so convenient to walk to Blenheim Palace which is a huge plus. Will definitely stay again if we go to Woodstock or Oxford.

Stunning 700year old hotel
Quirky layout full of history and mystery
Beautiful big bed, clean and spacious room
The Bar always has a problem every time we go there. When he's filling the dishwasher he isn't serving. And the queue builds up. Each order take ages to complete.
There aren't enough staff to deal with the queues. They need a buzzer to call in staff to help just for 20 mins or so.
Room was very comfortable, if a little hot, but made use of the fan. I was in the area for a family Ceremony on 23rd June. Weather v hot that week. 3 points: 1. Arriving late, in need of a tea or coffee, unable to locate the supplies. Had to seek out a staff member who said it was 'in the wardrobe' . It was in a cupboard under the tv. 2. tiny milk cartons are never enough , so next day I requested some fresh milk for my tea on second morning, approx 7.00am. It did not arrive. At 8.00am a found a Staff member who showed me the request on his phone, which had not been passed on. 3. I asked whether a small bottle of water could be put into their fridge for me to collect the next day. Answer "we don't have a fridge for that sort of thing". I think for a Hotel with such a good reputation it was a little disappointing that Staff could not have given a little more time and attention to some small details, eg where exactly to find the kettle etc..
Otherwise all ok and a good location.
I had a different room to the one shown online and not in the actual hotel building, the room was at the back of the hotel with cars parked up to the front door and a car engine was running at 4.45am for 15 minutes before leaving, unable to get back to sleep.

This splendidly located landmark hotel claims but fails to be 'Luxury', as it is too faded - but was still good value for a midweek break.
Breakfast is now without supplements (they have listened !) - but they had no smoked salmon, two mornings in a row, which is an indictment.
Reception was frosty. Room advertised as 4 poster on Expedia and was a small double attic room. Room hot and blinds didn’t keep out sun. Staff in restaurant were good. Expensive for room quality and service. Parking on street. Location good.
Really disappointing stay at the Bear in Woodstock.
A friend and I booked a modest double room and paid £282 for B+B. Appreciate that Nocturne festival was on but it was extortionate for what it was.
Breakfast was very disappointing to the point I didn’t eat it (in fairness they did refund me). I went to a nice coffee shop a few doors away for a decent cup of coffee.
When we complained - the staff were apologetic and seemed unsurprised. I usually wax lyrical about hotels I stay in - it was really rubbish last night.
