I was bitten HORRIBLY by bed bugs!
I called the motel immediately after the bites began to show - and NOTHING was done.
I read other reviews. Other guests have been bitten. It’s obviously an ongoing issue.
The woman I spoke with to inquire couldn’t have cared less.
I stayed in room 116.
It was my second stay. The first visit was great.
I will likely have permanent scars from bed bug bites I received.
The beds were comfortable enough. There's no elevator so we had to lug heavy luggage up some metal stairs that were rusting out and felt very sketchy. The coffee machine in the room smelled very sour and made the coffee undrinkable.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
It has the iconic appeal of the old roadway motels. The chipped paint around the room was a minor detraction the beds were a major one, broken noisy springs in mattress were uncomfortable. The mattress had a major sag from that condition. For a highway traveler, the restful sleep was important.

I loved the room looked country But the photos make it look a lil more updated then it was.
Our room was very comfortable and clean. We are moving to Nevada and Amarillo was our first night on the road. We’d eaten at the Big Texan Steak Ranch before so we decided to try the motel. We were definitely impressed.
We were hoping for a nostalgic experience but this motel has not had any recent updates. Pretty sure the brown, slow draining tub/shower (with cigarette burns on the edge of the tub) is original from the 70/80s. But hey, if that’s the vibe you’re going for, you’ve found the right place!
Don’t be deceived by the 82 photos on this website, like we were. Our room barely resembled these photos. It was described as a king suite; we had two separate rooms with an adjoining door (like what you’d remember if you ever stayed at Motel 6 on a family road trip… in 1982). I will give them credit for having clean floors, clean sheets and providing a mini fridge in the room.
Beds were hard in the room with 2 queen beds and just plain uncomfortable in the room with 1 king bed. Bedding consisted of white sheets, a thin beige blanket & peach colored waffle blanket. No coverlet, no comforter, just the bare minimum.
To top things off, our room was literally next to what was called the “Horse Hotel” so we also had the constant smell of manure. I love horses but I don’t necessarily want to sleep right next door to a stable.
The front desk is rarely available before noon & no one EVER answered the phone.

We made reservations with Expedia for this property. As we were traveling to it we got catch in severe, deadly weather in West Texas .I40 was closed down and we were not able to reach our destination. Mother Nature won and we missed this part of our trip.
The place looks like it's had better days. It's near that big steak place. I did get some flea bites. And reacted to them. People seems nice but definitely needs cleaner update. I would not stay here again.
Another great stay at The Big Texan. The rooms are rustic and basic, but have everything we need for a comfortable stay on a way through Amarillo. We have stayed three times now and each time our room is clean, very comfortable, safe for when I travel alone and easy check in/out for when we come and go late. All this at a great price. Highly recommend this stop. Don't forget your sharpie!
Reserving and checking in was GREAT! Check out was great, howerver I was very disappointed overall. Was looking forward to a nice hot shower and the water was cold even after letting it run a bit. The toilet wobbled horribly as well. For the price, I was expecting a nicer room. The steps going up to the room were rusted and had holes where it had rusted through. Did not feel safe at all climbing the stairs. Good location.
Liked the convenience to the Big Texas Steakhouse.
The decor was fun and definitely felt like a tourist doing Route 66 by not going to a standard chain hotel.
