The reviews told me the chances of getting bed bugs was likely. I did get bed bugs. And am now attempting to deal with this which continuing to travel. The actual place was okay but they need to fumigated. If you are ok with bedbugs it’s an okay place. Otherwise. Be warned. Also. The staff were not friendly or helpful in any manner. Basically did the bare minimum and did that under sufferance

Good enough

The location is good, the receptionist is nice and the kitchen is well equipped. The only bad part was that we were 18 in a room so it got very crowded and noisy.

Okay for a hostel

This is a busy hostel. Sort of feels like a bed factory. You get what you paid for, and that’s it. The mixed form is very new to me and I don’t think it should exist. No ambiance and bathrooms were poorly equipped.

Hostel was in a good location and had friendly staff. The beds were nothing special and the fans in the room weren't enough to cover all 8 beds. Didn't use the other amenities so can't speak to how the kitchen was.

Really nice hostel! The staff was nice and the facilities were good too. The one down side was it was so hot in the room because they only have fans. But it’s italy in the summer, so what can you expect.

Nice hostel, a little lacking in personality

I stayed at Hostel Santa Monaca for just 1 night as I didn’t have much time to spend in Florence. It’s a large hostel in a beautiful old building with an interesting history. The reception was manned by older staff, who didn’t seem to engage with their guests with any joy, although they did ask if I wanted suggestions on what to do in Florence. I stayed in a 6-bed female-only room, which had a ceiling fan and portable fan, and was clean, but did feel a little cramped. All the power points were by the door, rather than close to your bed, which wasn’t ideal. There was a toilet nearby, and the showers were a little walk away. There was a good-sized kitchen, although I didn’t use this, and a big dining area. It was about 20 mins walk from the train station, with a supermarket next door.
