Things to Do in Indianapolis

It’s nearly impossible to visit a city with the nickname of “The Racing Capital of the World” and not go to Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum. If you’re an auto racing fan you’ll think you’ve taken a day trip to heaven during your Indianapolis holiday. Some of the cars from past Indy 500 winners include Ray Harroun’s 1911 Marmon Wasp and Mario Andretti’s 1969 STP Hawk Ford. Can’t you almost smell the engine fuel from home?

After your RPMs return to normal levels, relax with a gondola ride down the Indianapolis Central Canal. If you close your eyes long enough, you’ll think you’re in Venice…until you open them again and you’re cruising through downtown past the Indiana Historical Society. If loud Italian singing isn’t your cup of tea, forget about the gondola ride and get yourself into a kayak. Nothing wrong with a little manual labour!

Are you looking for upscale shopping during your holiday to Indianapolis? Head over to the Keystone at the Crossing District and wander through The Fashion Mall. Stores that you’d normally find on Manhattan’s 5th Avenue are scattered throughout this mall. If you can’t find something to buy there, go to Circle Centre.

Check out the different restaurants in the Fountain Square cultural district, where you’ll find anything from traditional Mediterranean cuisine to classic Mexican joints and old-timey Italian places. It all depends on what mood you’re in, but we’re sure you can’t go wrong here.

Who’s ready to party? You are, and there’s one area of town you must let loose in. Take out your party hat in the cultural district of Broad Ripple Village where bars, music venues and comedy clubs line College Avenue.
