Post NewYear Kyoto stay

A great base for a Kyoto stay, close to good bus and train links. Close to the main shopping and market district. We were able to get a local train to Osaka for the next part of our trip from a nearby train station. This made this part of the journey relatively painfree despite us actually taking our suitcases ourselves for this hotel change. Note: you're not allowed suitcases on the buses in Kyoto.

Convenient hotel close to Shijo metro station and walkable to the Nishiki Market. Liked the washing machine dryer facilities available, the public microwaves and the breakfast buffet selection. Our room was a bit dirtier than expected - needed more vacuuming under the beds. Overall good value for money for the facilities provided.

If you sleep without problems and sound doesn’t bother you then this is the place for you, extra treat if you get room 401 next to the vending machine and on the way to the smoking area where guests from other floors seem to forget that people are trying to sleep. On the other hand there is construction under the building, to the point that if you make the mistake of take a break from touring, you will regret it. That said, room 401 was designed probably by 5 different people and you bump with yourself trying to get to the bathroom. The manager was nice enough to change me to a different room, much better, unfortunately on the same side of the construction. Did the checkout a day earlier because I couldn’t stand another day in hell.

Hotel was ok. Bed was so uncomfortable and the room was so small - bed against the wall with not much room to move. Was ackward getting in and out of the bathroom too. Room wasn't cleaned at all while we were there also. Otherwise the rest of the hotel was ok.

Nice vibe, just a bit off the beaten path

A nice surprise when I opened the door to the room: it was much more spacious than I expected for this price in Japan. No need to tiptoe around obstacles to get from the desk to the bed to the bathroom. Also, the aesthetics were nice, and the bed was big and comfortable. WiFi was stable. The front desk staff was friendly, efficient, and helpful. At check-in, the staff person helped me sort out transportation options to my appointment the next day. I had some appointments on the day of check-out, and the hotel kindly held my bags until I returned to pick them up in the evening. The hotel is a few blocks south of Shijo (an east-west street), and then a little ways off Karasuma (a north-south street). If you're walking south from Shijo, you'll pass the Karasuma Kyoto Hotel (and the Starbucks) and then a police station. Keep going until you reach the corner with a gasoline stand. Turn right. You'll see the hotel in a minute or two (on the right) before you get to the next significant cross-street. I enjoyed staying there, and I would happily do so again.

Pros: Reception girl is friendly and pretty. She help us to check in earlier after she notice the room is ready. That time was about 2 or 2.30pm. She able to speak basic chinese but not in full sentence. She able to speak english too. Cons: Lack of daily mineral water provide to every room. Just provide for the first day. It will make live harder as we need to buy a water for ourself which is inconvenient. Room size was expected as budget hotel in Japan usually room size will not be big.

This is the beat hotel during my trip. Location is walking distance from train station, convenient stores are very close. Room is spacious, modern and clean. It is a family friendly hotel. Staffs are super helpful. I will definitely stay here again if i go back to Kyoto. You can walk to Market and central shopping centre and a lot of great restaurants around.

Dear Expedia I booked this hotel for 3 adults and 4 children including breakfast...when I got there I had to repurchase children’s breakfast!! I was not happy with this outcome.
