The good: the room was clean and the location is good - near Central Park, 5th Avenue, Park Avenue, etc. The bad: everything in the room was worn, like it has been in constant use for the last 15+ years with minimal maintenance. Vent in the bathroom didn’t work. One of the shower doors was missing. Toilet seat was worn (??), and all the other furniture was beaten up or stained. All those things were easy enough to tolerate - I wasn’t in NYC for the hotel room. What was harder to deal with was the loud AC system that did keep the room cool, but would wake me up every time it cycled on at night. Worse was the dance club in the basement of the building next door - not something that 57 could control, but still... Heavy bass notes resonated through this 3rd floor room on three nights until 4am. Given the price of this room, I would have chosen somewhere else if I had known about these problems.

The property was dated. No privacy door hanger, very basic and little amenities not even a sundry shop on site, no water provided. Old air conditioning and carpet.

We didn't stay a single night. We walked in and the lobby was pretty much non-existent. My wife was not allowed to checkin because the reservation was in my name and with no on-site parking or a relationship with a garage, I had to fend for myself which took 45 minutes, requiring me to leave my wife sitting with all our luggage in a small seedy area of the hotel where she saw cockroaches running around. When we got to the room it was small, very hot, old and smelly. We left and went to the Hilton Midtown.

We tried to check in with another couple only to be told that they had lost both of our reservations and they told us the hotel was full. We made our reservations at the end of March and they apparently changed ownership in April. Because we had prepaid for our room they ended up honoring our reservation (after about 15 minutes) and gave us a room. The other couple had booked directly with the hotel and had not prepaid, so they refused to give them a room. The worst part is that they were utterly unconcerned and unapologetic about what had happened and made no effort to help the other couple find a new place to stay. They offered no compensation to the other couple and the manager was totally reluctant to even give them her last name. Another couple arrived after us and they suffered the same fate and were refused a room. Terrible!!

I think we didn't realize how spare accommodations would be a few blocks off Central Park, or perhaps this is standard in crowded NYC: there was neither microwave or mini fridge. This likely keeps pests to a minimum. There was no fan in the bathroom. No TV service; you had to stream everything. The room was very clean and convenient to our event. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The room was cleaned & beds made each day. The room itself was very tiny. It seems they are newish and working on a cocktail lounge of the lobby and they need to furnish the rooftop terrace. All in all, it was a pleasant experience & I would recommend Hotel 57: it is close to everything and a significant savings over larger chains.

This property is very outdated and overpriced for what you get. A room with zero amenities (no fridge, no honor bar, not even any water). I would definitely not stay here again. You can find MUCH better places for not that much more $$.
