We had a great time at Riu Palace! The staff are so welcoming. They work so hard to make your stay great! The grounds are well kept. The room was clean and beds comfortable. The food is amazing! The buffet has a great variety each day and the food gets replenished often. My kids loved the chocolate fountain. Each day there’s a different type of chocolate in the fountain. I loved the seafood variety. We ate at the steakhouse restaurant onsite and had a delicious lobster. We ate at the Japanese restaurant and liked the food. It’s a first come, first served which worked well. We never had to wait. There were some fun times at the pool such as the bingo games, foam party and the gymnastics show. Javi is a great server by the pool side. He remembered our names and what we like to drink. We loved the Riu white party over at Riu Tequila across the road. Early in the evening there’s face painting and balloons. It cost $10 US taxi to get from the playa del Carmen ferry to the Riu resort. I suggest dealing in pesos. There is a laundry service available. You have to pay by the item so it can really add up. So we didn’t use it. There’s a lot of laundry to do with a family. Too bad there wasn’t a self serve laundry room or a pay by the bag service. The beach was great. There’s lots of people swimming in front of the resort. The ocean is warm and has clear turquoise water. The sand is white and fluffy. I didn’t see many shells or fish. We can’t wait to stay here again!

Overall RIU staff provided excellent services. We stayed at the palace and felt that we should have the option of having dinner at other RIU locations, in the area. Additionally, natural cleaning product should be used in hotel lobby as there was a strong chemical smell.

It was very painful to see how they cooked an expensive steak as fillets mignons or ribeye In my opinion you should put the best chefs at these types of cooking stations A couple of minutes more and you destroy the meat cut

The priority seems to be weddings. There were three weddings during our stay of three nights. The first two the pool bar (the only seating on the property with a view of the beach) closed early afternoon to accommodate the receptions. The third wedding was later in the day. The reception was held in the middle of the property adjacent to the rooms with an ocean view. The music was very loud, the lighting reminiscent of Ibiza, was permitted until 11pm. The food was sub par compared to the Palace Rivieria Maya. We found ourselves eating there the entire time and sitting on their patio as it didn't seem to close, regardless of whether a wedding was taking place or not. On a positive note the delightful man working the main entrance was an absolute delight!

Property could have more beer options like Modelo or Pacifico. These beers are at almost every party in the USA so was odd they did not have. My husband was hoping to have more authentic Mexican options for breakfast. The staff was amazing and the property is always beautiful and nice. We will go back to this property it is very nice.
