We chose citizenM South Lake Union based on strong reviews, photos, location, and the promised “high-tech” experience—especially the city views. Unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations.
At self check-in, we asked which room orientation would provide the city views shown online. The response was vague and unhelpful. As visitors unfamiliar with Seattle, clearer guidance should be part of basic hospitality.
Our room’s “view” looked directly into another office building, with no privacy or ambiance. I tried to address this early by calling the front desk and was told someone would follow up, but no one did. Later, another staff member said the hotel was fully booked and implied the issue was our responsibility, even though view options were never clearly explained. There was no apology or attempt to help.
The hotel itself feels more like a capsule hotel or college dorm than a good option for families:
• Extremely small rooms and bathrooms
• No microwave or in-room coffee maker
• Very small sinks
• No Smart TV (Chromecast only)
• Gimmicky lighting over comfort
This hotel seems designed for influencers or solo travelers, not families. Between the poor customer service and the underwhelming room, the stay was not worth it. We would not stay here again.
