Needed 2 keys on a keyring holding 4 keys to get through 5 total doors. Did not notice until 2 day that hinges were broken on back door of room. The door could be pushed right over.

The front desk people are the best, very clean place and the location is awesome
Strange check in, with no front desk - check in at bar/restaurant next door. Clean room; good radiator heat for winter; good, fast hot water.

The room we had was quite small. When I entered the bathroom I automatically switched on the lights with my butt because the door was so narrow.
It's serviceable and everything else was good.

or the money - 5 beds
The front desk was not open at all twice when we went to check in. A third time we went back and they were kind but no one spoke any English. I couldn’t communicate needs (extra towels or glasses). The location says Prenzlauer Berg but this isn’t in the center of that cute area. It’s more on the outskirts. That said this place was clean, quiet (our room was beyond a courtyard) and could sleep 5 of us so we would be willing to stay there again. It seemed a good value for the money though I went in with my expectations a bit high.

Overall it’s a good value stay, location is excellent and check in was easy.
The place itself is a little outdated and the pillows are terrible.

Basic hotel room but good WiFi.
Basic hotel room but good WiFi. Great location of the hotel. Room is in the courtyard.
We needed a place for specific dates on short notice. This was our first "Pension" style hotel so I guess I didn't know what to expect. For the price, I was expecting more. That being said, service was helpful and friendly, the place was clean. The bed was terribly uncomfortable and the wifi was non-existent in our room
Hotel is excellently located next to the scönhauser Allee subway, easily accessed in 45 mins from shoenfeld sfx airport without changing lines. It is advisable to download Berlin transport app, found it very helpful for getting around on subway to other tourist attractions. Berlin Wall memorial is a 1.5 mile walk from hotel.
I was going to arrive quite late so I tried phoning the hotel to let them know but it was incredibly difficult to communicate over the phone as I did not speak German, I tried asking if they spoke English but they did not understand me. When I got to the hotel however, the level of English was excellent and check in was quick and easy. I was told I had to pay on check out. I had a single room which was a good size, the bathroom was spacious enough. The room was clean and comfortable - the pillows were really nice! The room also had an outdoor terrace that I didn't use but it was useful to leave the door open while I was in the room to cool down. While it was hot during my stay the ceiling fan kept me nice and cool.
The area was very good, with a few bakeries and essential shops - there's even a €1 shop just around the corner from the hotel. The U-bahn station is really close and it's easy to get connections to the central station or anywhere in Berlin.
I'd definitely stay at this hotel again, it fits its purpose perfectly.
I really like this hotel and would stay here again no problem. The only caveat is wireless internet however I doubt if most people staying here are trying to actively work online instead of exploring.

ok stay
I know that European standards are different than North American, but the room was a bit small, bed was ok. Staff was friendly and the room was in the inside of the building, which was very quiet. The location was good with very easy access to public transportation. I'd recommend this hotel if the price is good, otherwise I'd try somewhere else.

Interesting!
Convenient the train line and shops...basic but suitable for the price.
Easy to get anywhere in Berlin by public transport
Interesting area to walk through. Some beautful restoration work has been done.
Language is probably not an issue, Almost everyone speaks some English, and many other cultures are represented in the area around the "Gasthaus". Although more younger people frequent this area, we felt quite comfortable walking. Just be aware of your surroundings.
Loved it!! The hotel is conveniently located in a "hinterhaus" off a main street meaning that the room is nice and quiet at night. Our room on the ground floor even had a door outside to a little courtyard with table and chairs. This would be fantastic if the weather was nice and sunny to relax a while. Nearby there are plenty of good cafes and restaurants but do remember to check out the hotel buffet breakfast before wandering around outside as it represents great value. Free wifi too!!
We arrived late but staff were still on hand as they share a restaurant. The room was quiet and in a great location for exploring the old eastern part of Berlin.
The location was perfect to walk to/from the train. Numerous restaurants, cafes and shops line the streets. The place itself was clean & simple. I stayed in a single room with two beds. The room was fine for one but may be a bit cramped for two--although perfect if you're just planning to be there for sleeping. The bed & pillows were quite comfortable. There was also a small refrigerator in the room which was nice to have. And the price was fantastic!
The five of us stayed in this hotel…which actually is a typical German “Wohnung” turned into a hotel apartment, for three nights in July and had a great time. The neighborhood, Prenzlauer Berg, is great if you want to experience the young and hip side of the town. Lots of street cafes, inexpensive restaurants (….a very highly recommended Vietnamese one right across the street!) and places to enjoy a beer after a long day of sightseeing. Also, a lot of small stores and boutiques to shop in or just check out their unique merchandise. The public transport hubs (S and U Bahn) are close by and run very frequently. The hotel offers an inexpensive breakfast buffet…highly recommended. You can sit outside and sip your coffee while watching the scenery. Very European! Overall, we can highly recommend this hotel.
Great value; good location -- easy 10-minute ride to museum island/other attractions in city center; good neighborhood -- good energy, choices of bars/restaurants; love the wine/tapas place next door; amazing breakfast; cheerful, modern, clean, comfortable rooms. We are a family with kids ages 5 and 7, and the room was perfect. I was told our room would have 2 rooms and it was one (but 1 worked out just fine). WiFi didn't work in our room but did in public areas, which was fine. Don't count on any "front desk help" -- e.g., tourism tips -- it's a no-fuss kind of place.
