Construction was waking us up every morning and there was no apology or warning when we checked in or booked the room. We would not have stayed at this hotel had we known about the construction it was very noisy and disruptive to our stay.
We liked staying at the Hyatt Place Charleston/Historic District for many reasons. Parking was literally right across the courtyard! The hot breakfast each morning started each day well & we enjoyed the hot coffee too. The hotel is located right off King Street which has restaurants, shops & many retail stores to browse. We also were located close to the CARTA shuttle bus stop which is a free service offered to all. Most times we walked; however sometimes you need to ride so we used the shuttle bus when our bodies yelled "rest"!
Me and my 4 colleagues stayed here for the week for work and have all gradually developed a sore throat that worsened with each day. One of my colleagues had inspected their room air filter only to see it completely black and matted with dust. Granted, we all flew/drove in from different parts of the country and don't work in the same departments. So for all of us to be suffering with intense allergies, a bad sore throat/cough and getting sick by the end of our trip makes us not want to stay here again.
Sadly had a few issues with this Hotel. It is undergoing redevelopment which people need to be aware of (which we weren’t until we got there)! The area around it too has very noisy construction work going on from early morning which can be heard in the bedrooms sadly!
No reception open in Hyatt Place so check in and check out is at Hyatt House reception. The hallway carpets to our room on the 5th floor were badly stained and had a lot of dirty marks. The room itself too had stains on the pull out sofa and the bedroom carpet .The footstool had a chunk missing out of one corner of it. Furniture too had a few chips out of them. Rooms definitely need upgrading.
Housekeeping was great daily cleaning and fresh towels provided and beds were freshly made every day. Beds were very comfortable but could have done with extra covers as it felt cold at nighttime.
Good choice of breakfast items. It got a bit chaotic after 8:30am as two hotels where using one breakfast area as Hyatt Place Kitchen/Dining area wasn’t open due to renovations so everyone has to useHyatt House.
All staff were friendly and helpful.
There’s a handy little shop next to Hyatt House reception where snacks etc could be purchased.
Nice little outside area at the front with seating and a fire pit.
Hotels are situated in a great position for shops and bars etc Free Bus picks up nearby to go to other areas of Charleston .
We didn’t hire a car as found getting around easy with buses and taxis.
Clean room, staff very pleasant and attentive, location was perfect. Breakfast was good as well, cleaning staff in the breakfast area were paying attention to detail, cleaning and paying attentive. Front desk morning staff, very courteous especially Darnell.

The sheets were not changed nor the bed even turned down the 2nd night. There was no towel replacement or room coffee replenished.
