Welcome to Mountain Moonrise — Your May Family Retreat in the Smokies
Mountain Moonrise is a spacious 3-level chalet thoughtfully designed for families and multi-generational groups. Practically at the doorstep of Ober Mountain and just minutes from downtown Gatlinburg, May is one of the most magical months to visit the Smokies. The mountains are lush and green, the weather warm and inviting, and the area buzzes with some of its most beloved seasonal events. One guest captured it perfectly: "There were a ton of fireflies surrounding the house every night which was cool. The star gazing was also perfect from the top porch."
BEDROOMS & BATHROOMS
The upper level features two private king suites, each with its own ensuite bathroom — ideal for parents or grandparents looking for a peaceful retreat. A charming reading nook between the suites overlooks the breathtaking mountain views — a cozy spot to slow down with a coffee and take it all in before the day begins. The lower-level bunk room with farmhouse-style bunks and its own foosball table is a hit with kids. All bathrooms are stocked with full-size shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hairdryers — no tiny hotel bottles. One bathroom also has a bathtub, great for young children.
MAIN LIVING SPACE
The open-concept kitchen, dining, and living area is filled with natural mountain light and anchored by a cozy electric fireplace. The fully equipped kitchen features stainless steel appliances, a peninsula with bar stools for casual dining, and a complete coffee bar with espresso, K-cup, french press, and drip options. As one guest put it, "The kitchen was well stocked with appliances, the fire pits, grill, jacuzzi and patio lights all worked — the house is immaculate."
RIGHT NEXT DOOR: OBER MOUNTAIN
Just ~2 miles away, Ober Mountain is a year-round adventure park that earns a full day on its own. Ride the Tennessee Flyer mountain coaster, soar on the Cloud Catcher ziplines, encounter wildlife up close, take the Smoky Mountain bobsled, test the rock wall, and more. New this season, the Sky Village Express chairlift carries guests to the highest lift-served peak in the Smokies at 3,455 feet — with a brand new scenic deck and sweeping long-range views. Whatever the age or energy level, there's something for everyone.
ENTERTAINMENT & GAME ROOM
The lower-level game room goes well beyond the highlights. Alongside the pool table and multicade arcade, guests have a dedicated movie area with comfortable seating, and a selection of board games that tends to come out after dinner. It's a guest favorite on rainy days and quiet evenings alike.
OUTDOOR LIVING
The main level deck is the social heart of the outdoor space — beyond the dining table firepit, guests can settle into the egg chair and watch the game or a movie on the outdoor deck TV while the gas grill is going. It's the kind of setup that turns a barbecue into an event. Up on the upper deck, the gathering firepit sets the perfect scene for s'mores and stargazing as the mountains fade into the evening. Come May, fireflies begin lighting up the hillside as darkness falls — one of the most magical things about staying in the Smokies this time of year. The lower deck hot tub sits tucked among the trees, offering a private soak with panoramic views in every direction.
FAMILY-FRIENDLY AMENITIES
Mountain Moonrise makes family travel genuinely easy. Beyond the pack 'n play, high chair, and baby bathtub, the home is stocked with kids' utensils, books, and toys for early readers — so families can travel light and focus on the fun. One parent shared: "They provide pack 'n play, toddler bathtub, kids' tableware, and games — the pictures show exactly what you see on the decks, unbelievable mountain views!"
EXTRAS THAT MATTER
The home includes a dedicated remote work desk and chair on the main level for those working remotely, a 220v EV charger for eco-conscious travellers (Tesla owners please bring your own adapter), and parking for 2 vehicles on the private driveway, with additional overflow parking available at the end of the street.
