Disappointing Second Stay
Disappointing second stay at Johnston Canyon. Stayed here in September, and loved everything about the place. This time I booked a smaller cabin, and although it was cute, there were a few annoying things. After check in, I tried to make coffee but the lid on the coffee pot was broken, and fell off, and the coffee went everywhere. The girl from housekeeping turned up quickly (thankfully) with another coffee pot and helped me clear up.
The next issue was have to listen to builders working on neighbouring cabins. This went on all through Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings. I would have loved to sit outside on the deck to relax but this wasn’t possible due to the workmen. It’s not at all relaxing listening to drills going!
Next issue, there is no heating in the bathroom, and as the temperature was below freezing at night and early morning, using the bathroom and shower was not a pleasant experience!
And lastly, the food in the shop cooler wasn’t as nice this time. In September they sold lovely yogurt parfaits and freshly made sandwiches. This time there was only curled up old sandwiches and pots of fruit that was past its best.
It was nice to have a great hiking spot so close to our cabin. We rented e-bikes from them that went really smooth. Quiet, safe feeling property. A bit far between towns. But there’s a small gas station close by. Cabin was cute and a great size for a couple.
Charming cottage with nice view of water streaming down the mountain. Perfect location to hike the Falls during less crowded hours. Cozy beds and warm showers after long hikes. The fireplace was an added bonus.
Amazing place to stay. The hike up the canyon so see the waterfalls was fairly easy and well worth it. Take the full hike up to the upper falls. They are stunning!
We LOVED our stay! The area was beautiful, with hikes within walking distance. The cabin we had was updated, clean, and still cozy, with everything you needed for your stay right there, even including wood for a fire! We would absolutely love to stay here again when we return to Banff.
Disappointing stay. Cottage in desperate need of TLC. Extremely overpriced for the poor condition of this accommodation. Restaurant on site did not have several of the food or beverage items listed on their menu. However the staff were exceptionally friendly and the location was beautiful.
5 stars for what it is. Its not a glitzy, high luxery cabin but i knew that when i booked. More about location. The cabins are at the trail head of the johnston canyon trail. I have hiked this trail a couple of times before and these cabins have been on my personal bucket list for years. The front desk person was very friendly, i was able to check in early and got a free upgrade. The cabin was clean. Tap water took about a minute to heat up. Super quiet and normal people around. Maybe that is weird to say but idk i was worried about it everyone just looked like normal non threatening people. I saw a fox. The bistro is good. They hadnt updated the menu so not everything was available but the server let me know upfront and was pretty nice. I thought it was kind of pricey my coke and small drip coffee were 5.50 6+ with tip. The banff bussing sytem runs rught to and from the site. It was really great i sat on my private deck for 40 minutes reading with a coffee surrounded by the woods. I would highly recommend. I just put everything to be fair. Oh and wifi was spotty for steaming shows but fine for everything else. Download shows/videos ahead of time for bedtime if you can. It worked but checked out to the blue circle of death a coupke of times.
I'm told I was the first guest of 2025 - what an honour! This is a picturesque cottage resort, nestled between the towns of Banff and Lake Louise. Several of the cottages back onto Johnston Canyon Trail. Stunning views of nearby Pilot and Castle Mountains. Cafe and restaurant have great offerings and friendly staff. Cabin was spacious and cozy with a propane fire and lovely porch with iconic Red Parks Canada chairs - where you can watch deer, fox and more wildlife, stroll by. Great value. Considering a return next spring too. @markmccauley
